Can anyone suggest any books covering the final year?

There is Elvis King of the road 1954-1977 written by Robert Gordon. There is Elvis the concert years 1969-1977 by Stein Erik Skar. They go into 1977. A few years ago they released a book series about Elvis's concert tours of 1977 but I think those books were mainly picture books. Elvis Presley February 1977 tour.

I have jus taken delivery today of “The King On The Road”. It was the lack of ‘77 coverage that prompted question.

I would also recommend "Did Elvis Sing In Your Hometown, Too?" by Lee Cotton. It nicely covers any tour show given by the star and gives overviews about all casino engagements.

Thanks to Ernst Joergensen, Roger Semon and Erik Rasmussen for the great work. Keep the spirit alive !

It sounds like the Concert years is the book for you then.

There's a fine book called, ELVIS IN CONCERT, which features in detail 4 shows in 1977, including ANN ARBOR and Elvis' second last show. A major update of this sold out book is coming in 2021, which also includes full details of another 8 shows including PONTIAC.

the book/cd combo "the february 1977 tour an audiovisual documentary vol. 1" by the label rock legends is easier and cheaper to get via ebay (a 2nd volume was never released).

the better and more expensive option would be the foto book that came with the original big bootleg box "the final curtain" (including a few cds with soundboards and even dvds with super 8 films), dedicated (almost) exclusively to the 1977 tours.
but it will be difficult and, as i mentioned, much more expensive to track this one down now, years after its release.

Do not forget Sam Thompsons' "Elvis on Tour. The Last year". I bought this in 1993. It is a rather thin book, if you can call it a book, but it contains some reflections and memories by Mr Thompson and a lot of information on hotels, gasoline costs for flights with Lisa Marie, security remarks.
