Another act of obstruction. When will this end? Do we finally move to arrest and prison at obstruction incident #5 or #15?
White House will not participate in Judiciary Committee hearing
https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/01/politics/white-house-not-participating-judiciary-hearing-impeachment/index.html
(CNN) - Neither President Donald Trump nor his attorneys will participate in Wednesday's House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearing, they said late Sunday.
In a letter to Chairman Jerrold Nadler, White House counsel to the President Pat Cipollone said, "We cannot fairly be expected to participate in a hearing while the witnesses are yet to be named and while it remains unclear whether the Judiciary Committee will afford the President a fair process through additional hearings. More importantly, an invitation to an academic discussion with law professors does not begin to provide the President with an semblance of a fair process. Accordingly, under the current circumstances, we do not intend to participate in your Wednesday hearing."
Cipollone accused the New York Democrat in the letter of "no doubt purposely" scheduling the hearing while Trump will be at a NATO meeting in London.

Trump offers every possible excuse for why he won't participate in impeachment hearings except for the only one that should matter - a defense of his conduct, which he hasn't, and apparently can't, muster.
That's because his conduct is impeachable.

Senate panel look into Ukraine interference comes up short
https://www.politico.com/news/2019/12/02/senate-panel-ukraine-election-interference-074796
With the impeachment inquiry charging forward, President Donald Trump’s allies have defended his demand for political investigations from Ukraine by claiming that the government in Kyiv tried to sabotage his candidacy and boost Hillary Clinton in 2016.
“Russia was very aggressive and they're much more sophisticated, but the fact that Russia was so aggressive does not exclude the fact that President Poroshenko actively worked for Secretary Clinton,” Republican Sen. John Kennedy claimed on Sunday in an interview with NBC, referring to the former Ukrainian president.
But the Republican-controlled Senate Intelligence Committee thoroughly investigated that theory, according to people with direct knowledge of the inquiry, and found no evidence that Ukraine waged a top-down interference campaign akin to the Kremlin’s efforts to help Trump win in 2016.
The committee’s Republican chairman, Richard Burr of North Carolina, said in October 2017 that the panel would be examining “collusion by either campaign during the 2016 elections."
But an interview that fall with the Democratic consultant at the heart of the accusation that Kyiv meddled, Alexandra Chalupa, was fruitless, a committee source said, and Republicans didn’t follow up or request any more witnesses related to the issue.

Judge denies DOJ request for stay on Don McGahn testimony
https://www.politico.com/news/2019/12/02/judge-denies-doj-request-don-mcgahn-074846
House Democrats on Monday notched another legal victory in their pursuit of critical testimony tied to their impeachment efforts, though the ruling may be short-lived because the case is already on temporary hold while it works its way toward an appeal.
U.S. District Court Judge Kentanji Brown Jackson, in a 17-page opinion, rejected the Justice Department’s request to put a long-term stay on her earlier opinion requiring Don McGahn, the former Trump White House counsel, to appear before the House Judiciary Committee.
Jackson also decided to lift an earlier administrative stay she’d issued that had put her decision briefly on ice while the case moved up to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
“This Court has no doubt that further delay of the Judiciary Committee’s enforcement of its valid subpoena causes grave harm to both the Committee’s investigation and the interests of the public more broadly,” Jackson wrote.
Last week, Jackson decided Trump couldn’t claim “absolute immunity” to prevent his former aides from testifying under oath. But she also later agreed to a seven-day freeze on her opinion to hear out the Justice Department on its arguments for a longer-term hold pending the appeal.

Lindsey Graham says he's '1,000% confident' Russia meddled in 2016 US election -- not Ukraine
https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/03/politics/lindsey-graham-russia-election-meddling-ukraine-conspiracy/index.html
Washington (CNN)Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham on Tuesday said he is "1,000% confident" that Russia, not Ukraine, meddled in the 2016 US presidential election, breaking from President Donald Trump and others in his party who have pushed the discredited conspiracy theory.
"It was the Russians. I'm 1,000% confident that the hack of the DNC was by Russian operatives, no one else," the South Carolina senator told reporters on Capitol Hill.
He reiterated his stance to CNN saying, "I've got no doubt that it was the Russians who stole the DNC emails. It wasn't Ukraine. Russia was behind the stolen DNC emails and (John) Podesta and all that good stuff."
Graham continued later in the same interview: "So as to the Ukraine, they had zero to do with the hacking of the DNC and the stealing of the emails. Whether or not people from the Ukraine met with DNC operatives, I don't know. All I've seen is press reports that no one has validated."

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/12/mitt-romney-breaks-with-gop-colleagues-who-have-been-pushing-baseless-ukraine-conspiracy-theory/
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) has broken with his fellow Republican lawmakers who have been trying to argue that Ukraine actually “interfered” in the 2016 presidential election.
While talking with reporters on Capitol Hill, Romney distanced himself from Republicans who have been trying to justify President Donald Trump’s decision to withhold military aid by claiming that he was right to be suspicious of Ukraine.
“I saw no evidence from our intelligence community, nor from the representatives today from the Department of State, that there is any evidence of any kind that suggests that Ukraine interfered in our elections,” Romney said, as reported by Axios. “We have ample evidence that Russia interfered in our elections.”

House passes resolution disapproving of Russia being included in future G7 summits
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/472905-house-passes-resolution-disapproving-of-russia-being-included-in-future-g7
The House on Tuesday passed a resolution disapproving of Russia being included in future Group of Seven (G-7) summits in a 339-71 vote on Tuesday.
The resolution was introduced by Rep. Albio Sires (D-N.J.) in August after President Trump said in August he believed Russia should be readmitted into the G-7. Russia was expelled from the G-8 in 2014 due to its occupation of territory in Ukraine.
The resolution includes language reiterating the United States’ support for Ukraine while denouncing the country’s occupation of Crimea and destabilization in the region.
The measure also condemns the “Kremlin’s assaults on democratic societies worldwide, including in the United States and other Group of Seven countries,” and calls of the leaders of the G-7 to oppose Russia rejoining the group unless it ends its occupation of “ Ukraine’s sovereign territory, including Crimea” and attacks on democracies around the world.
“Time and time again, Russia has shown it has no respect for the territorial or democratic integrity of other nations,” Sires said in a statement after it passed out of committee. “ … Russia has not met any of the conditions but has become more aggressive in Ukraine and has undermined democracy in numerous other countries, including the United States.

Macron Uses Toddler Reverse Psychology Trick to Fool Trump Into Supporting NATO
Yeah, I agree - Obama needs to come back.
..
http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/12/macrons-toddler-psychology-trick-makes-trump-endorse-nato.htmlToday is another meeting of NATO, an organization Trump has denounced and undermined for years. The keenest minds in what remains of the free world have set themselves to the task of distracting Trump long enough to get through the NATO summit without dissolving the alliance in a tantrum. The Washington Post detailed the efforts leading up to the summit. The plans include flattering Trump with an elaborate dinner at Buckingham Palace, and presenting a series of trumped-up concessions to make it appear the allies have buckled to Trump’s demands by increasing their spending, thereby allowing him to claim victory rather than storming out in a huff.
The plans include “a largely symbolic concession from Germany to save U.S. cash by spending more to pay to keep NATO’s lights on — which diplomats hope Trump will seize as a victory out of proportion with its size,” and a presentation on defense spending increases cleverly cropped to make it look like they began in 2016. (Diplomats are comfortable just blurting this out to a major newspaper because they know Trump does not read articles.) The whole trick is to choreograph an elaborate ruse in which Trump will believe he forced the allies to submit to his will and won.
Amusingly, what seems to have worked instead is Emmanuel Macron’s completely different ploy. The French president gave an interview last month decrying the “brain death” of NATO, which he said had failed to account for America’s shrinking commitment under Trump.
Trump himself has called NATO “obsolete,” openly questioned whether the U.S. would come to the defense of allies under attack (the very foundation of the alliance), and privately told aides on several occasions last year he wants to withdraw from the alliance. But the notion that somebody else would question NATO, and blame its demise on Trump, has enraged him.
And now Trump is lashing out at Macron. “NATO serves a great purpose,” he declared today. “And I hear that President Macron said NATO is ‘brain dead.’ I think that’s very insulting to a lot of different forces … When you make a statement like that, that is a very, very nasty statement to 28 — including them — 28 countries.”
Manipulating children into doing what you want by pretending to demand they do the opposite thing is a trick most parents learn to use. It usually stops working around the age of 5.
Yeah, I agree - Obama needs to come back.

“People are flushing toilets ten times, fifteen times — as opposed to once,” Trump claimed while arguing against water conservation efficiency standards.
The president’s claim did not match the personal experiences of many Twitter users, who questioned where Trump had gotten his information on the necessity of double-digit flushing.

Trump first two congressional endorsers have pled guilty to felony charges because that’s the brand.

@KFILE
Duncan Hunter resigning means Trump's first two congressional endorsers will both have resigned from Congress over felony charges.
The first being Chris Collins who resigned in September.

Re: and now it really begins ...
Surprise, surprise, surprise.
Internal Justice watchdog finds that Russia probe was justified, not biased against Trump
Attorney General William Barr and a prosecutor he tapped to lead a separate review of the Russia probe immediately criticized the DOJ inspector general's findings.
Dec. 9, 2019, 9:58 AM PST
By Ken Dilanian, Pete Williams and Julia Ainsley
WASHINGTON — The FBI mishandled parts of its application to monitor a Trump campaign aide as it was probing possible Russian interference in the 2016 election, but the overall investigation was justified, according to a long-awaited report by the Justice Department's watchdog that rebuts the president's depiction of a politically biased plot against him.
The report by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz concluded that the FBI and the Justice Department launched their investigation into the 2016 campaign not for political reasons, but because of evidence the Russian government was using cutouts to reach out to the Trump campaign as part of its efforts to influence the election.
Horowitz found that political bias did not taint the actions of former FBI leaders who have frequently been the subject of presidential attacks on Twitter, including former Director James Comey, former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and former Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok.
"We did not find documentary or testimonial evidence that political bias or improper motivation influenced the decisions" to open investigations into four Trump campaign aides, the report says.
Click here to read the report.
[snip]
Horowitz and his team spent nearly two years on an investigation that was intended to scrutinize the FBI's surveillance of Carter Page, a foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign who had traveled to Russia and had previously been the target of recruitment by Russian intelligence officers.
[snip]
Still, the report found no evidence that political bias influenced the decision to pursue the warrant on Page. Officials felt that they had to get to the bottom of a potentially serious threat to national security, the report says.
"The IG report confirms FBI was justified in opening an investigation that uncovered criminal activity by the President's campaign manager, national security adviser and other aides," Sen. Mark Warner, the ranking Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, tweeted. "It was never a witch hunt. It was the men and women of federal law enforcement doing their jobs."
[snip]
The report did, however, refute the notion that the FBI placed a spy in the Trump campaign.
"We found no evidence," the report said, that the FBI sent any confidential sources to join the Trump campaign, or sent them to campaign offices or events, or tasked them to report on the Trump campaign.

Thread: Throw me in the briar patch!!!
Trump wants this over before his financial crimes are revealed.
Meanwhile, House Dems need to slow the impeachment inquiry until they get Trump’s financial records, but they can’t give the game away.
-----
House Dems know they are going to get Trump’s financials, it’s just a matter of when. It could be as soon as Friday or as late as March, so they need to time things just right. It’s going to be dicey and will require some expert sleight of hand, which we’re already seeing.
-----
Luckily, there are lots of ways to appear to be going fast while actually stalling for time. One way is to keep releasing reports and holding hearings that seem like they are advancing the ball ever closer to the goal line.
-----
Another way is to make public announcements like “we’re not going to engage in lengthy court battles to get more evidence on Ukraine!” Sure you’re not, but you are going to wage court battles to get his financial documents.
-----
You can also leak little stories about being almost done or requiring all House members to stay in DC over the holidays. Looks like something’s happening! Psyche!
-----
There are also little tricks like announcing that you’re “drafting Articles of Impeachment!” So that means you’re done, right? Wait, it doesn’t?
-----
Next we will hear that Articles of Inpeachment have been drafted and are circulating among House Dem leadership! We may even hear that the House Judiciary Committee is going to {gasp!} vote on Articles of Impeachment! Does that mean we’re done? No.
-----
This thing will be strung out for as long as it takes, but each day will seem like we are moving ever closer to the end. And we are. We just won’t actually *reach* the end with a vote by the full House on Articles of Impeachment until the House gets Trump’s financial documents.
-----
And when the House gets Trump’s financials, that’s when we will get the real story. That’s when they are going to tell us that everything is being put on hold while a new investigation ramps up and new hearings are called, this time into Trump’s financial crimes.
-----
And *that* is when we reach DEFCON 1. That’s when Trump will be at his most unpredictable. Who knows what the hell he’s going to do then? Declare war on Iran? Declare martial law? Shut down the government? Resign? Kill himself? Desperate times call for desperate measures.
-----
We already see Trump and Cipollone demanding that Trump be impeached RIGHT NOW. Just do it, dammit! Send the case to the Senate!
Throw me in the briar patch!!!
-----
Hold on tight and get ready for head fakes from the House Dems. We are in for a show.

I was able to watch a good deal of the impeachment hearing today. The Republicans always seemed to be yelling and screaming and not letting people speak. They really looked like they were completely beside themselves.

How is anything accomplished if the Democrats question the Democrat lawyer and the Republican questions the Republican lawyer during their 5 minute allotment?
Should it not be the democrat questioning the Republican and vice versa?
Also, why doesn’t the chairman demand they ask questions instead of making a speech during their 5 mins

Because republicans refuse to look at all the evidence, and they refuse to go against Trump and Russia, with the House ranking member Devin Nunes being financially linked directly to Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas to the tune of more than $50,000.00. All truth is out the window in terms of anything the republicans peddle at that point.ForeverElvis on Mon Dec 09, 2019 6:30 pm wrote:The 30 mins or so I watched seemed like an exercise in political show.MaryAnn wrote:I was able to watch a good deal of the impeachment hearing today. They would rather peddle conspiracy theories to save their hides, and we (I, at least) don't want to watch the Art Bell show.

“These actions were consistent with President Trump’s previous efforts to undermine United States government investigations into foreign interference in United States elections.”

Corrupt to the core.

This should’ve been the biggest story of the day.
He stole money from his own charity. He had to pay $2 million in damages.
He has to get permission to ever run a charity again.
It’s an offense that would end anyone else’s candidacy.
But because Trump is SO corrupt...we yawn.
David Fahrenthold
@Fahrenthold
.@realdonaldtrump has now paid the $2 million in damages he was assessed by a NY judge, for misusing money in a charity Trump controlled.
Extraordinary punishment for a sitting president.
