In the army induction photo below, he seems to be nearer 5' 11" in his bare feet. Granted, the photographer appears to be higher up, but imagine the height of the top of Elvis' head without the quiff.

I agree. Especially in the 1950's, yet he seems unfazed by the whole experience.
