1920 Comptometer Mechanical Calculator-

I really, really, like this thing. It seems like I'm always saying this, but I didn't expect this thing's capabilities to be so deep. I liked the Burroughs Portable, but the Comptometer is so much better it makes that look like a toy. I really had to cut down the things I wanted to say about the Comptometer for this video to keep it a reasonable length. I could go on and on about it because despite it really only doing one thing, it is shockingly capable. I definitely think a Comptometer belongs in everyone's vintage calculator or computer collection.

Extremely rare, spectacular film about London during WW-II in color [A.I. enhanced & colorized]
Might just be me, but I think London looked a lot more beautiful before those damned skyscrapers went up :D

1931-1933: Views of the Great Depression + FDR Inauguration (speed corrected w/ added sound)
Amazing views of America during the Great Depression. Included a portion of FDRs inauguration speech, also includes views of Al Capone, John D. Rockefeller and Herbert Hoover. Historical/rarely seen footage now shown at a natural rate. The sound is roughly half real and half added in by me (those parts have a narrator speaking over unfortunately). The parts with real sound are some of the earliest sound-films ever made, the technology was still in its infancy. The song is "Walkin my baby back home" by Annette Hanshaw in 1931. Thank you to British Pathe for archiving this material, check out the "Time to Remember" series.

September 1902 - Fair in North England, Leeds (speed corrected w/ added sound)

This is an agricultural fair in Leeds in September of 1902. It's a strange look at time long since past, and it has survived in real good condition. The uploader Mr guy jones has put in some sound ambience and atmosphere to give it the feeling of peeking through a time machine...this is likely as close as we'll ever get!
The film is from the Mitchell and Kenyon collection. Enjoy

Crossing the North Sea on the luxury liner SS Colombia from Amsterdam to Dover in 1930 in color!

A highly interesting film about a trip from Amsterdam's harbor to Dover on the luxury liner "SS Colombia" almost a century ago.
The Colombia starts its journey through the Noordzee kanaal with its sea locks at IJmuiden and then follows the Dutch coast across the North Sea to enter the Channel for its final leg of the journey to Dover.

Apparently this must have been a business excursion for the top brass of Dutch (?) companies to the UK. The passengers consist mainly of well-dressed men who enjoy the many facilities on board, including a luxurious diner. However, a group of nuns can also be seen boarding the ship.

The freight and passenger vessel SS Colombia was put into service in 1930.
It was the flag ship of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Stoomboot-Maatschappij until it was requisitioned at the beginning of WWII by the Dutch Navy on 8 November 1940. It then became the Hr.Ms. Colombia to serve as submarine mother ship. Subsequently the Colombia was sent to the Dutch East Indies. Eventually it was taken out of service in 1943.

The original B&W film has been speed-corrected, motion stabilized, enhanced and colorized by means of Artificial Intelligence software.

Music: Rand Aldo.
Source B&W footage: Beeld En Geluid.

The Beatles - Piggies (1968) paired with Le Cochon Danseur (1907)

Considered to be one of the creepier contributions from the silent era (for some reason), Le Cochon Danseur (1907) is the tasty, little morsel I have paired up with "Piggies" written by George Harrison from the album The Beatles (also called The White Album). The baroque rock short is a perfect match for this Victorian era bit of vaudeville which concludes not too sweetly. It is the ending that has given some a sense of repulsion and horror. The pig is seen licking his chops with a sharp set of fangs causing many to fear the young lady who has shamed him on stage has ended up a devilish Nougat de Montélimar. Actually, come to think of it, "Savoy Truffle," also written by George Harrison, might have been a better track to follow "Piggies." I have adjusted Le Cochon Danseur to synchronize with the tempo of "Piggies" where the dance routine occurs. It has also been made into wide screen and tinted.

July 22, 1902 Time Machine - Track and Field Day in England (speed corrected w/ added sound-

This is a very early film of track and field/day school sports in Bradford, England. This is at Bradford's Horton Park Avenue on July 22, 1902. Dig the top-hat event at 4:52! Added in some sound ambience to go with the visuals. This film is from the Mitchell and Kenyon collection.

BC 348 Radio/Receiver

The BC-348 is an American-made communications receiver that served during the WWII.
This unit arrived with some modifications, such as an on/off switch , 220V conversion and an antenna connection. I just removed the old connector that was in bad shape and placed a common ultrahigh frequency (UHF) connector. A lot of recap has been made in this radio.
Now it is performing really well. Btw, I am using a long wire antenna.
Thank you for watching...

" THE MAGIC KEY " - 1950 U.S. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANIMATED FILM POST-WWII PROSPERITY XD38414

Sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, this highly optimistic, 1952 full color animation/live-action hybrid film presents the USA in the forefront of the world. It examines the medium of advertising as “the magic key” to continued American economic prosperity in the post-war era, suggesting a relationship between ads and modern refinements to household appliances (TRT 21:54). It was produced by the Raphael G. Wolff Studios.

" ENGLISH CHILDREN " 1949 EDUCATIONAL FILM UNITED KINGDOM SOCIAL STUDIES YORK ENGLAND 45774

This black and white film, entitled “English Children (Life in the City),'' was produced by Encyclopedia Britannica Films, Inc. (EB Films). This 1949 film is a collaboration with Harold S. Kemp of Harvard University and is educational and observational in nature. The production opens at 0:31 with a pleasant narration and footage of English school children participating in recreational activities outside a schoolhouse in the summer. Boys and girls playing marbles and jumping rope outdoors during afternoon school recess is depicted (0:40-1:12). The film goes on to describe the classroom activities for students in London city schools, from drawing to learning new subjects and other such wholesome endeavors. After-school activities are described for all ages of English youth, emphasizing sports and play time (1:50-2:38). The camera pans across a mid-level aerial view of York, an old city in the north of England (3:31-3:46). At 3:47, the narrator describes the Towers of York Minster while the camera stops to focus on a shot of the tower buildings. An impressive example of Medieval architectural prowess, the set of towers was constructed in the 15th century. At 4:12 we are introduced to a typical English family called the Watkins, with the film showing the work and home life of each member. An example of characteristic British food is presented on the Watkins family dinner table (5:12-5:15). The daily life of this archetypal English family is further captured with footage of tea time, family members listening to the BBC sports news program on radio, and casual conversations between mother, father and the children.

We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment! See something interesting? Tell people what it is and what they can see by writing something for example: "01:00:12:00 -- President Roosevelt is seen meeting with Winston Churchill at the Quebec Conference."

This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k. For more information visit http://www.PeriscopeFilm.com

A little bit of an unorthodox post for this thread but some might find it interesting, here's a little bit of local history from where I come from.

1) My great grandfather, Jack, plucking a chicken as was his job, not sure if he ever plucked any pheasants though :D

2) My house (the right half), all dolled up for the coronation of George VI

3) A little article about the village bakery getting closed. A real shame for the village.
