OK so adding 5 more for the 10, I choose to add:r&b wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 3:23 pmElvis was no longer really the king of rock and roll in the 70's as the decade was dominated by ballads. However he did turn in some good ones, although far too infrequently. My all around top 5 songs are
Burning Love
Promised Land
Way Down
TROUBLE
Always On My Mind - to me his best ballad on of the 70's why oh why wasnt this the A side!
Its Your Baby You Rock it
If You Talk In Your Sleep

Ten favourites of mine in no special order and changing from time to time:
Faded love
I just can’t help believin’
Twenty days and twenty nights
Just pretend
Tomorrow never comes
Heart of Rome
Help me make it through the night
Blue eyes crying in the rain
I’ll never fall in love again
I really don’t want to know

Re: Your top ten 70s studio songs
I hope Cisco doesn't mind, but I thought it'd be fun after a week's worth of posts to take a look at the results.
Thirty-three FECC members selected songs. For each one, I captured the first ten studio songs mentioned. As most people didn't rank them, I didn't apply any weighting to the selections. According to FECC, here are the most popular Elvis 70s studio songs:
#1
Promised Land (19)
#2
Always On My Mind (16)
#3
Burning Love (14)
#4 (Tie)
I'm Leavin' (10)
T-R-O-U-B-L-E (10)
Way Down (10)
#7 (Tie)

See previous post with a suggested release:
Why should I buy a CD / LP with tracks already released on all kind of LP’s / CD’s?.
I don’t care if the sound is a little up-graded.

You shouldn't buy it. If the above album ever comes out as an official release on vinyl exactly as described, however, I will personally buy copies of it for you and all of the other contributors.colonel snow wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 5:22 pmWhy should I buy a CD / LP with tracks already released on all kind of LP’s / CD’s?.

Thank you for the inspiring topic! It was neat to see the variety of 70s studio songs Elvis fans prefer.
I can see why you might think that, since I only displayed results for songs mentioned at least three times. However, my fun included carefully considering the first ten studio songs referenced by every commenter on the topic to that point - even a post or two that were tongue-in-cheek. Tallies for the remaining songs not shown in my previous post are attached for your reading pleasure.drjohncarpenter wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 8:34 pmLooks like you did not consider ALL the posts in your analysis.

It would've been helpful if that display choice had been noted in the previous post . . .
Thanks for the addendum. It appears two votes was the breaking point, very clever to draw the line at three.
Also, did you include song tallies from those who posted a second or third list?

You're welcome - happy to share with someone who enjoys details. And thank you, yes - I was trying to save some space as well.drjohncarpenter wrote: Thanks for the addendum. It appears two votes was the breaking point, very clever to draw the line at three.
No matter the number of lists posted, I tallied the first ten studio songs that each individual person mentioned. I ignored all live songs and any studio songs over the first ten referenced. If Person A listed 8 studio songs in their first list and 3 studio songs in their second list, I counted only the first 10 mentioned. This was in the spirit of keeping with the instructions given at https://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1975194#p1975194 and amended at https://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1975295#p1975295. Unfortunately, I was not able to hire an independent third-party to monitor as I tallied the results or to provide a recount, so there is a margin of error.drjohncarpenter wrote: Also, did you include song tallies from those who posted a second or third list?
- Using this criteria, 33 different posters made a total of 268 references.
- In all, the 268 references were split across 80 different songs.
- Of 70s studio masters released during Elvis' lifetime, 63 of them failed to receive a reference at all (see attached).

Re: Your top ten 70s studio songs
What can I say, other than being in a silly mood and a few glasses of wine can do a strange thing to a person's musical taste buds. I'd tend to agree with most of folks picks, Burning Love, Promised Land, Always on my Mind etc, the usual culprits. Not sure if anyone mentioned it but I do have a real soft spot for Early Morning Rain.LSP-4445 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 5:16 amHoly crap, thats really your top 10 favorites?Gary Crawford wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 9:30 pmPadre

Re: Your top ten 70s studio songs
Really interesting analysis on the one level, but it would have been better to wait until a topic has ran out of gas. Basing it on just 33 votes and one week's length, is hardly relevant.Tygrrius wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 4:36 pmI hope Cisco doesn't mind, but I thought it'd be fun after a week's worth of posts to take a look at the results.
