Loud, Fast & out of Control
Rhino/1999 - PRCD 7451 - USA press
By M.Pathuis
I bought this promo CD about two years ago and it is not something new but I would like to share it with our viewers, and 'till last week it was still sealed,
but I had a strange feeling that I like to hear what was on it and broke the seal and put it in my CD-player, and it was really........Loud, Fast and out of Control.... for some reason, the music
from the 60's still seems to matter to almost every pop music fan, Jimi Hendrix, The who and the Beatles take their place in record
collections alongside The Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana, but somehow the music of Elvis Presley, Buddy holly, Little Richard
and Chuck Berry among others, has been robbed of its credibility, through the artificial glow of nostalgia we see an era of happy-go-lucky kids in
argyle sweaters, poodle skirts and bobby socks at the malt shop, nostalgia merchants have given this music a sheen of safety and worse, novelty
and have made the music of the period irrelevant to todays record buyers.....but if you could go back to the actual '50's you'd meet another
group of kids-the ones with leather jackets and switchblades, hanging out in the alley behind the malt shop, what where they listening to?
This CD was made for promotion for the 4cd boxset "Loud, Fast & out of Contol" ..... the biggies - Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fast
Domino and Jerry Lee are all on this incredibel 4-cdbox, but they sit, as they once did, alongside such historically neglected greats as Gene Vincent, Eddie
Cochran, Screamin'Jay Hawkins and The Johnny Burnette trio. You'll also find R&B artist like Little Willie John, Lavern Baker and Hank
Ballard, who stretched the confines of their genre ...... maybe I will put this promo CD with the rest of my great Collection of Elvis Presley CD's, but one
thing I know for sure, I will be playing this CD a lot.
