Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
I was looking at some Pine Bluff pictures on my computer and I was wondering, do we know for sure which pictures were taken on which date? I know both Elvis and the band wore the same outfit, which makes it hard to date the pictures. I think I've seen a post by Gammamaster on fecc adressing the different shirts of Sam Thompson and I've seen a few topics with (guessed?) dates but nobody seems to know for certain. Of course there are some pictures on elvisconcerts.com, but I don't know if those are correctly dated. Right know I have these on my computer:
September 7: September 8: September 7 or 8: Can anyone confirm that these are in fact the correct dates?
If someone has a picture from one of these dates that I haven't posted yet, please feel free to post them.

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
The only photos I have ever seen said to be from the September 8 show are the ones that have the "ethereal" glow to them. The show on the 8th was the last time we would see Elvis perform during his lifetime...

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
It's very hard to see, but it looks like Elvis is wearing a band aid in the "glowing" photos. If all the "glowing" photos are taken on September 8, the one with Sam Thompson wearing the white shirt is also from the 8th. That makes the photo of Sam Thompson wearing the blue shirt September 7.

Photos from one date has ring on middle finger and empty ring finger with band aid, photos from other date has ring on ring finger and empty middle finger - all meant about his right hand.

And photos with rings on both fingers are from...? Please also note that Shaver has colorized Thompson's shirt to white in this photo.

Interesting. Did the choker/necklace get altered too?
(If so, why did Shaver do this kind of stuff anyway??)

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
I used to not like that suit all that much. But having since seen it on video, it grew on me. The sparkles of the sequin patterns really do come alive on video in a way that just can't be captured in photos.

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
Brian, I saw EP wear both variations of the suit on stage and both were highly reflective in the stage lights. While neither costume ranks among my favorites, simple photos do not do any measure of justice to the design. It had to be seen to be appreciated.

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
Well said Frankie. I saw Elvis in both suits as well in concert. I always liked both of them and felt they were quite "cool" in person. You are so correct in pointing out that the pictures do not do justice for these suits like seeing them in person. Personally, between the two, I always preferred the white suit with the blue sleeves. but that's just a personal preference.FrankieRider2 wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 9:55 pmBrian, I saw EP wear both variations of the suit on stage and both were highly reflective in the stage lights. I saw both variations, too, and it's a suit I quite liked. I'm not sure why the hate? Certainly I liked other suits better, but I'd take this over rainfall suit or the puffy sleeve suit (both worn New Year's Eve 1975).

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
I agree 100% Christopher... and as fans at the time, we had no idea he was alternating them daily for virtually the entire year. Over all the years we saw him, he changed his stage attire and at that time we just figured this was a new variant he was working out.Christopher Brown wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 12:33 amI saw both variations, too, and it's a suit I quite liked. We never dreamed 1976 would be the last time we'd have an "audience" with our hero...

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
Luckily I got to see him four times in 1977 -- including one of the best of 1977 -- Ann Arbor! And Cincinnati was good, but disappointing (nothing new except I REALLY DON'T WANT TO KNOW -- which was sensational but far too short).

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
The first one is from Rochester, July 26, 1976 and the second is from Buffalo, New York - June 25, 1976 (though I tried to post them in chronological order). I really liked this suit. Different belts, one with chains, and different colour sleeves.

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
Thank you for the picture from Rochester, I had only one from this show until now. And concerning the chronological order, I've seen in the past that you have to upload the last picture that you want first and so the first picture that you want in your post must be uploaded after the other.Christopher Brown wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 8:41 pmThe first one is from Rochester, July 26, 1976 and the second is from Buffalo, New York - June 25, 1976 (though I tried to post them in chronological order). Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
These 2 suits are 2 of my least favorite suits he ever wore. But I do agree that seeing them live on stage, with the spotlights hitting them, they were impressive. He was wearing the white version when I saw him in April 76. I had not yet seen any pictures of the suit and was completely surprised by it. But to me they were still horrible. When Elvis was in shape, the jumpsuits looked like superhero suits and I think most were great for their time, but these suits were (imo) embarrassing. First, they accentuated his weight instead of camouflaging it. The puff sleeves and baggy pants legs and the light colors made him look even heavier than he was. They were also out of step fashion wise for 1976. They were more glam rock style which was popular in the early 70's but out of fashion by 76. The suits were just to feminine looking with the pastel blue or white puff sleeves and just not cool looking (Imo). I had a blown up picture of Elvis in the white version from the 76 show I attended and my uncle (Not a fan but not a hater either.) looked at it and said that Elvis looked like a fat lady in that suit. And although it made me mad when he said it, I kind of agreed at the time that he did. Shame on Bill Belew and Gene Doucette for these designs.
Given his weight and the then current fashion trends, Elvis just would have looked so much better moving on from the jumpsuits by 76 and continuing with the dark 2 piece suits that at least didn't accentuate his weight.

I remember my uncle seeing the cover of RAISED ON ROCK in my room, and was somewhat happy I had switched from Elvis to some female singer he wasn't familiar with -- pink spotlight didn't help.

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
I thought those starburst suits were cool but that was a terrible picture and cover. I always thought a picture of him playing guitar (like during the CC Rider solo or like the “Thing About You Baby” single cover) would have been better and then a picture of him looking more pensive for the backside, under the For Old Time Sake title.Christopher Brown wrote: ↑Wed May 17, 2023 2:31 amI remember my uncle seeing the cover of RAISED ON ROCK in my room, and was somewhat happy I had switched from Elvis to some female singer he wasn't familiar with -- pink spotlight didn't help.

Good thoughts, guys....., as a young high schooler I thought the Raised on Rock album cover was awesome! I still like that cover showing Elvis in action.eligain wrote: ↑Wed May 17, 2023 2:47 amI thought those starburst suits were cool but that was a terrible picture and cover. I agree that those style of jumpsuits were terrific. I like each of them.

Re: Pine Bluff September 1976 pictures
Interesting discussion going on here.
Some of the jumpsuits that I don't particularly care for (I had to look up the names, don't know if correct) -
Bear Claw (aka: Alpine or Chicken Bone)
Gypsy (aka: Totem Pole ?)
V-neck (circa '75)
(Although, I do agree that in person / on display, they are quite different and even beautiful - very different than how they come across in pictures.)
