It's one of the classic 1950's recordings. I say it's excellent!
There are several of Elvis' 1950's ballads I don't care much for. This one is a clear exception.
It's been with me since my earliest days as a fan in the latter 5 years of the 1980's.
That album Elvis' Golden Records is a classic.

We only have a handful of live versions, but they are very good. The studio master is pretty great, Elvis gives his all on his very first "power" ballad.tcb4 wrote:hello

It was a tentative first step outside of the sound he created at Sun and tried to carry over to RCA. No doubt this single, and "Heartbreak Hotel" before it, made Sam Phillips wonder what they were doing, but the release of "Don't Be Cruel" that summer allayed everyone's concerns.

Yes, that's true.drjohncarpenter wrote:...It was a tentative first step outside of the sound he created at Sun and tried to carry over to RCA.

My generation, now having our 'own' music via the rock 'n' roll of Bill Haley, found Heartbreak Hotel was like nothing we ever heard before !
But I Want You, I Need You, I Love You seemed to hark back to the music we were anxious to get away from !
It took the likes of Blue Suede Shoes, Hound Dog & Don't Be Cruel to convince us we had a Haley replacement !
And this time it was one who actually looked the part of a rock 'n' roll hero !

Re: I Want You, I Need You, I Love You
This is one of my favorite Elvis' 50's ballads. I first heard it on Elvis' Golden Records.
I prefer the album version and it was a good song for Elvis.
RCA producer Steve Sholes took parts of two takes he liked (takes 14 and 17) and cut and spliced them together to come up with a take worthy of release. His cuts were so seamless, nobody at RCA Victor could tell it wasn't from a single take.

It's good. Sometimes I listen to it. Sometimes I hit the skip button. It's not one of my faves.

I use to have the exact same opinions as Lennart, but this time it´s different. As always in the 50´s, Elvis gives 110% vocally, but I must say that this tracks belongs to the lower region of his 50´s masters.Lennart wrote:Good!
Kind regards

His first single that wasn't incredible.
TELL IT LIKE IT IS, SON!!! Excusez-moi monsieur ?
Re: I Want You, I Need You, I Love You
He sings the hell out of it, but it was never one of my favorite 50s tunes.

Always liked it and it reminded me of "Anyway You Want Me (That's How I Will Be)".
