Elvis in vacance, July 1956
Can anybody tell me the dates for these two photos, please? I have the first one from 'The Atomic Powered Singer' by Brian Petersen and i think this is from July '56, Biloxi (what is the date?). Could be the last one from July 21-29, 1956, McKellar Lake?

Re: Elvis in vacance, July 1956
HI hilton22000,
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING PASSAGE FROM THE BOOK:
JUNE JUANICO - ELVIS IN THE TWILIGHT OF MEMORY (PAGE 115]
ELVIS HAD MENTIONED his love for water skiing to Eddie, and wanted to hire a boat for the day. He didn't care to go on a specified route, with a ski instructor, for a ten-minute ride. He wanted to go it alone for as long as he pleased.
Eddie, along with a friend, drove in the driveway pulling a boat behind the car. They launched the boat across the bayou with Elvis, extremely sunburned from the fishing trip, wearing a long-sleeve shirt and long pants to protect his tender skin from the sun. I sat on the bank with his mom and dad, and we watched the boys skiing up and down the bayou. Eddie, riding in the boat, took some shaky, out-of-focus movies for us to laugh about later.
After skiing, Eddie joined us for a pool-side lunch, along with Elvis's mom and dad and the rest of the gang. Elvis kept insisting he wanted to do something nice for 'Mr Bellman', and finally Eddie - insisting Elvis call him 'Eddie' - came up with the idea of Elvis making a personal appearance at his downtown Biloxi shoe store.
For that reason I think, both pictures are from July 1955 and not from July 31, 1956.

Re: Elvis in vacance, July 1956
And here's the rest, from the same book:
"Elvis kept insisting he wanted to do something nice for "Mr. Bellman,” and finally Eddie - insisting Elvis call him "Eddie" - came up with the idea of Elvis making a personal appearance at his downtown Biloxi shoe store. "I’d be happy to, Mr. Bellman, I mean, Eddie, just let me know when." "I’ll talk to my partners, Elvis. How about tomorrow?” "Sounds good to me, Mr.... er, Eddie. I don’t have any other plans."
On Wednesday afternoon, August 1, Elvis did a promotional appearance at David's store, so the above conversation are from July 31. And here's a photo from July 31 (the footage can be found on DVD "Elvis and June: A Love Story", July 2002):
The background and the guy from July 31 photo are the same like photo #2, so both photos, #1 and #2 are from Biloxi, July 1956. I don't know the exact date, but must be before the July 12 fishing trip, when Elvis get the sunburns. "Elvis complained about his beet-red sunburn and didn't want to pose for pictures. " (from 'The Atomic Powered Singer" by Brian Petersen)

Re: Elvis in vacance, July 1956
Hi hilton22000,
the first pictures is an image of Elvis with Charlie Neal (Bob Neal’s son) in McKellar Lake, July 1955. The last picture ist from Bayou, part of Big Lake, near Biloxi, (31.) July 1956 with an unknown boy.

Press Photo E-bay.
I then came across this better quality image of the one originally posted, which also gives the instructor's name seen with Elvis - Richard Waters, and the photographs were taken by Wally Hill.

Re: Elvis in vacance, July 1956
Great photos, thank you very much!!! "Press Photo E-bay" is totally new to me, great find!!
So, in conclusion, the photos with shirt are from July 31, and the photos without the shirt are from July '56, before the fishing trip from July 12, when Elvis got the sunburns. Right?
I'm talking about the '56 photos, not the ones from 55.

Re: Elvis in vacance, July 1956
Richard Waters was one the people I met last year when I was trying to get some more info about elvis time in Biloxi (few remained after Katrina). Richard's father and mother ran the the Gulf Hills Dude Ranch where Richard worked as lifeguard / waterski instructor. So the waterski photo's are not from Biloxi but from Ocean Springs. He does not remember the date. He only remembered that Elvis took more than one lesson, that he was pretty good at it and that he really got sun burnt. I got some more info and photo's through his (ex) wife, like how he dated the daughter of one of the performers, that they both went to New Orleans, went horseback riding at Gulf Hills Ranch, etc. Unfortunately the photo's in the Pink Pony (lounge) were destroyed by fire. However the current owner of Gulf Hills was kind enough to sent me some nice vintage photo's of how the Gulf Hills Ranche looked in the old days, including the horse trail. If time permits (need to scan them) i will post them.hilton22000 wrote:So, the photo #2 is from Biloxi, too, i think. Thank you very much for the answers
Please do not thank me--- Thank Elvis for making THIS happen.

When I was a child I was a dreamer,
I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book
And I saw movies and I was the hero in the movie
So every dream I´ve ever dreamed has come true a hundred times.
