Yes... the reason is sitting in the photo below... as a movie, Blue Hawaii was not good by any stretch...rollinson1 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 11:32 pmI have to disagree with that statement, if you were applying this to the movies from 65 onwards I could understand. There is a reason that this film fared well with the general public, top 10 grossing movie of 1961 & 14th grossing of 1962, that's quite impressive by any standard. Blue Hawaii offers some of the best comedic acting seen in any Elvis film. Angela Lansbury is superb as Elvis' mother and the interaction between her and her husband, Roland Winters & Elvis is in my opinion as good as anything from a romcom of that era. Back to the music, I have the book and both book and the audio are fantastic but everyone to their own I guess.joekro1977 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 10:15 pmBlue Hawaii is a groaner of a movie but the music is rightfully lauded as some of the best movie music he ever did.
I will be passing on this as I'm already quite pleased with my older FTD BH release - but I'm very, very pleased for those that were hoping to get their hands on the sessions without paying for the books.
Really?joekro1977 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 10:15 pmBlue Hawaii … the music is rightfully lauded as some of the best movie music he ever did.
Take 3 of Ku-U-I-Po and No More seems to be missing...09. Ku-U-I-Po
(CO) takes 2,4,5
10. Ku-U-I-Po
(CO) takes 6-7
11. Ku-U-I-Po
(CO) takes 8, 9 (master)
12. No More
(DO) takes 1-2
13. No More
(DO) takes 4, 5, 7
There never was a take 3 of Ku-U-I-Po.moonandback wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 8:33 amTake 3 of Ku-U-I-Po and No More seems to be missing...09. Ku-U-I-Po

In terms of post-army movies I think BH makes the top two or three in terms of the music.minkahed wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 8:28 amReally?joekro1977 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 10:15 pmBlue Hawaii … the music is rightfully lauded as some of the best movie music he ever did.
That’s a bit of a stretch, doncha think?
I think only a handful of tracks are good, the rest is your average movie tracks. In terms of a top three post army years, G.I. Blues and Viva Las Vegas are there and for me Fun In Acapulco gets in over Blue Hawaii, it’s a far more consistent listening experience with no real dud on the soundtrack, the latino sound suits Elvis more than the Hawaiian sound.joekro1977 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 5:07 pmIn terms of post-army movies I think BH makes the top two or three in terms of the music.minkahed wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 8:28 amReally?joekro1977 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 10:15 pmBlue Hawaii … the music is rightfully lauded as some of the best movie music he ever did.

Bigger one.
Agree. Elvis was in splendid voice during the Blue Hawaii sessions and there's some wonderful music to enjoy. But also a couple of real clunkers and some very average stuff. I prefer a number of 60s soundtracks to this one, including those you mention, plus FTD, KG, GGG, IHATWF and even Roustabout.Elvis2000 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 5:15 pmI think only a handful of tracks are good, the rest is your average movie tracks. I don't agree: Elvis' spanish was terrible.Elvis2000 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 5:15 pmI think only a handful of tracks are good, the rest is your average movie tracks. Great news. It's not the price that makes me turn down the books.

Great news. It's not the price that makes me turn down the books.
But it's really boring seeing almost identical pictures over and over again. The feeling is like: when you take 50 pictures and keeps 5 of them for the future to make the album more browse-able and intersting. Then someone just recover the "Recycle Bin" and makes a mess out of it.......... not so interesting to me and I cannot imagine that many buyers will turn back to these books many times. So far I have seen mint copies only on the second hand market. Maybe an indication?
These books are more and more like "board books" for children. A few words and a lot of pictures.
I choose as you, the music.
Agreed Doc. I have several of the books Pål and David have put out over the years, and Vinyljunkie is painting and inaccurate picture to say the least.drjohncarpenter wrote:vinyljunkie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 2:25 am

For those who care, the above does not in any way describe the multiple Elvis books put together in the past decade by David English and Pål Granlund in conjunction with Follow That Dream Records.
In fact, it reads like someone who has never seen even one of their titles.
It's really uncool to post so deceptively.

I have all of these except the first 6 which I was not even aware of...thanks Doc.
