Colin - Although I completely agree with your review of HS (or HH) I also think it's much too cerebral and sophisticated. You need to scale it down a bit so the average Joe can understand it!

NICE!
It may suck, CB, but it is one of my most prized posessions in my LP collection.
Original issue in mono with the "Rudolph Valentino" pic.
Absolutely MINT condition.

Well, maybe a million...

minkahed: The original 11 tracks are about the same as the original lp(maybe slightly improved). The outtakes, however, sound fantastic.

Mink', what's up with having that
second avatar -with one of the most useless new albums on BMG in years, to boot?!
By the way, I've had "Harum Scarum" on DVD for months - and I've yet to watch it! (For shame..!)
It's one of the few I've never seen. Should I hop to it or what?

Why is that "too bad."
Are you the co-owner of this site?
Don't you think we've had enough space issues and loading issues here? Why have any avatar restrictions otherwise?
Or do you have another standard of your own making?
Sorry, mate, but it seems a little obnoxious.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
I'm in the market to add my own second avatarsoon, and I advise everyone to join the Mink revolution!
It's impossible to know who's an owner around here! (When did all this fake name business
begin in the internet world anyway?
Are we that ashamed of being Elvis fans?

I gotta a confession to make: "I watched Harum Scarum early in the morning!!".
Only Elvis participation gives me strenght to go on until the end.

"Go East Young man', sings show-biz star and martial arts wiz Johnny Tyronne. To hear is to obey. A clandestine group called the Assassins kidnaps Johnny and whisks him to a remote Arabian realm isolated from the world for 2,000 years.
Sheik meets desert chic when Elvis Presley plays Johnny and teams with former Miss America Mary Ann Mobley(Elvis' Girl Happy co-star) in this tuneful frolic shot on the original 1927 Cecil B. DeMille set from King of Kings and directed by movie musical veteran Gene Nelson.
The kidnappers want Johnny to use his fighting finesse to kill a desert king. Johnny a hitman? No, he's a hit, man, a top singer of songs like "Kismet", "Hey Little Girl" and nine more, all part of the jammin,' swashbucklin' fun of "Harum Scarum."

It's good fun, better than 'Paradise Hawaiian Style" and 'Easy Come Easy Go'. Don't you think he looks dashing in that Valentino turban?

Actually I enjoy songs like "Harem Holiday", "Go East Young Man" (quite different this one), "Hey Little Girl" is nice and to tell the truth some friends really enjoyed "Shake That Tambourine".
But "Wisdom Of The Ages" and "Animal Instinct" are both great tunes in my opinion and it´s a shame these were cut in the final edition.
PS: I agree it is far better than Easy Come, Easy Go (at least in Harum Scarum we don´t have minutes of wasting time of Elvis under the water and Mary Ann Mobley is prettier than the actress in the ECEG movie)
Best Regards
Renan.

Just found this movie on VHS at a local Boscov's store for $1.99 (I know, some folks may think that's $1.99 too much!)
But, the movie is fun, and I was looking for some stuff for my 4 year old daughter to watch with Elvis in it. I don't really want her to see stuff like King Creole or the darker, dramatic ones yet.
So it fills that void nicely. Same day, I found Follow That Dream and Clambake in the same $1.99 bin there. There's a contrast in Elvis movies!
I do like the ballad Elvis sings in the jail cell in HS. I'm blanking on the title now, but its a pretty good song.
At least he hasn't gotten to the point of singing "Old MacDonald" yet!

You wrote: That's some review, Colin!
Written over two years ago, and still coming back to haunt me !
My original review doesn't even exist anymore, it only survives where other posters have quoted it !
And just think of all the work, thought and time I've put into some other threads which have sunk down and off the screen in double-quick time !
