Elvis and Doris Day
Anyone know if Elvis and Doris Day met? If so are there any photos of them together or is there any mention of her in any of the books on his life?
I have only really started to appreciate her recorded work in recent years but dont know much about her career etc but I do not think i have ever seen a photo of her and Elvis anywhere.

Yeah I was kinda intrigued to know as I have not seen anything but I do not collect the books really. I cannot see many songs that cross over apart from Are You Lonesome

But you never know.Maybe there's a forum member out there with a bit of little know info.
I've always liked Doris Day.I think it's a shame that Elvis didn't collaborate with many other performers.Instead now we have to deal with the electronic duets.
One of my favorite DD songs.

Miss Day also recorded 'Can't Help Falling In Love' (1963) and 'A Fool Such As I'.

Re: Elvis and Doris Day
Elvis tried to cover Rick Nelson's version of Fools Rush In, with James playing the same accompaniment he played on the Nelson recording. Unfortunately Elvis was not in good form on this session, though I still find it listenable.
I thought Elvis take of Que Sera, Sera was very amusing when he sang, "When I was just a little pup, I asked my mother what will I be, here's what she said to me...You ain't nothin' but a hound dog..."

There are no apparent mentions of her in any of the major Presley biographies.
Day was a very successful singer, actor and life-long animal rights activist. She is 94 now, and living a quiet life of retirement in California.

Re: Elvis and Doris Day
...Calamity Jane is a true classic film and I can imagine Elvis on a date seeing that one. "Secret Love" is an excellent and rarely covered song that could have worked for him at any point of his career when he was looking for material.

Agreed. The number (Windy City?) where she dances on the saloon bar is fabulous. I love the harmonies, too, on The Black Hills of Dakota. She had such a wholesome, vibrant voice but could do the smoky stuff, too.charroman wrote:...Calamity Jane is a true classic film and I can imagine Elvis on a date seeing that one. Day and Elvis also shared recordings of You'll Never Walk Alone, in the Garden, Winter Wonderland and Silver Bells.

Re: Elvis and Doris Day
She's so great in that scene, isn't she!Greystoke wrote:Secret Love is a lovely song that Day sung beautifully. Like Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be) it was also an Oscar-winner (for Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster). And Calamity Jane is such a wonderful movie. The Just Blew in from the Windy City scene is a joy. With Doris showing her physicality as well as her musicality and dancing abilities. It's superbly staged and choreographed. She was certainly one of the most talented, able and successful entertainers to have both a singing and an acting career.Steve Morse wrote:Agreed.
