So Glad you're Mine
This is a VERY strong song,an almost perfect tune from Elvis 1956 album..
At the 1:09/1:10 mark, there is a s short sound, which sounds a little bit peculiar to me, because it is very short and it seems to me that it is not in the rhythm of the song.
When I first heard it , I thought there is a scratch on my CD.
Can anybody tell me what this short sound is? A solo sax? Or a guitar riff? I can't figure it out.....
Thanks to everybody and have a nice/pleasant Sunday.

Re: So Glad you're Mine
This was on my original copy of the LP from 1956, but have no idea what it is... I've learned to just enjoy it

Re: So Glad you're Mine
Sounds almost like a sax note, but as a sax wasn't used, as far as we know, on these sessions I have no idea. But what a great recording this is with a fantastic build up to the instrumental break, Elvis and his group showing why they led the revolution.

Re: So Glad you're Mine
I always assumed - and still do - that it is Elvis just yelping off mic. Never thought this could be anything else. It's also one of the reason this fantastic performance is in my all time Elvis recordings
Well, hello there....

According to Scotty Moore it's the screech of his wedding sliding across the strings of his guitar.

Great song .I've wondered about that sound too ,come to think of it.It doesn't sound like a yelp.Doesn't even sound like a guitar sound.I've always thought it was a horn sound. It is very much like a sax but of course there is no sax anywhere else. It's a mystery.

So what you mean is wedding band or ring ?

Re: So Glad you're Mine
He means that his ring touched a guitar string, prior to his solo.
Not an uncommon thing to happen in records and/or with guitarists.
Sometimes, the slightest touch will pick up harmonics, scratching, etc etc ....

Re: So Glad you're Mine
I have to say that DaveLee's wedding ring does sound like the most plausible cause.
Re: So Glad you're Mine
A few weeks ago there was an elongated run in following my comment that the first album was a mish-mash and sloppily put together, cover art notwithstanding. The fact that something such as I Love You Because was used and the masterful So Glad You're Mine (which eclipses most of the songs on that first album) remained in the vaults is just further proof.

Re: So Glad you're Mine
I prefer So Glad You're Mine to I Love You Because (in my opinion the worst track of the Sun Sessions) anytime.

Re: So Glad you're Mine
Maybe So Glad Your Mine, like My Baby Left Me, was put aside for possible future single release.poormadpeter2 wrote:A few weeks ago there was an elongated run in following my comment that the first album was a mish-mash and sloppily put together, cover art notwithstanding. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I am of the opinion RCA missed a trick by not making his first LP the 10 Sun sides plus extras.poormadpeter2 wrote:A few weeks ago there was an elongated run in following my comment that the first album was a mish-mash and sloppily put together, cover art notwithstanding. Essentially a Memphis recorded Rockabilly album. Produced by Sam Phillips.
"Elvis Presley" Winter 1955/56
"That's All Right"
"Blue Moon of Kentucky"
"Good Rockin' Tonight"
"I Don't Care If the Sun Don't Shine"
"Milkcow Blues Boogie"
"You're a Heartbreaker"
"Baby Let's Play House"
"I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone"
"I Forgot to Remember to Forget"
"Mystery Train"
"Trying to Get to You"
"I'm Left, You're Right, My Baby's Gone"
"Just Because"
"Blue Moon"
Then follow up with the brand new RCA material. Nashville and New York recorded Rock and Roll. Produced by Elvis Presley.
"Heartbreak Hotel" Spring 1956
"Heartbreak Hotel"
"I Got a Woman"
"So Glad You're Mine"
"I Want You, I Need You, I Love You"
"I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Cry (Over You)"
"My Baby Left Me"
"Blue Suede Shoes"
"Lawdy Miss Clawdy"
"Shake, Rattle and Roll"
"I Was the One"
"One-Sided Love Affair"
"Money Honey"
Two world class LPs, with distinctive moods and uniform sound. All killer, no filler.
How could he top these? "Hound Dog"/"Don't Be Cruel". The boy was on fire!

Re: So Glad you're Mine
I think the problem with that is that Elvis at RCA - the singles they were putting out - didn't sound much like the Elvis at Sun. What seems bizarre now is that Heartbreak Hotel and its flipside were not included on the first album. It seems now as if it would have been the logical move and a huge selling point.Good Time Charlie wrote:Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I am of the opinion RCA missed a trick by not making his first LP the 10 Sun sides plus extras.poormadpeter2 wrote:A few weeks ago there was an elongated run in following my comment that the first album was a mish-mash and sloppily put together, cover art notwithstanding. Re: So Glad you're Mine
RCA put out the Sun singles on RCA 45's starting in late 1955. There isn't a chance they were going to be included on the first album.

Re: So Glad you're Mine
Agreed completely. I personally love I Love You Because and Blue Moon and the other Sun "rejects," but I also think they had little reason to go on an LP alongside the likes of Blue Suede Shoes, Money Honey etc.Good Time Charlie wrote:Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I am of the opinion RCA missed a trick by not making his first LP the 10 Sun sides plus extras.

Actually, that raises the possibility of Elvis' third album being a ballad-focused effort. After the rockabilly album, the rock and roll album, and the Hound Dog/Don't Be Cruel single, RCA could have put out a ballads/gospel album to show Elvis' diversity. It would certainly have made for a more coherent listening experience.
