Have any newer discoveries been made regarding this massive undertaking?

Not sure its been mentioned on this thread but the 68 special live material edits/sequencing has been recreated from the source tapes rather than the poor album master (that appears on the 4CD box-set).

I'd like to mention again here the audible drop-out on "You Don't Know Me" (Record Version) at 0:16 on the left channel. Sounds like a tape error, too.

The drop-out at 0.16 on "You Don't Know Me" is not present on the CDs "Tomorrow Is a Long Time," "The Country Side of Elvis" and "The Elvis Presley Collection - Country (Time Life). It is present on "The Complete Elvis Presley Masters," the Franklin Mint set, the recent reissue of "Clambake" as well as the FTD "Clambake." Like others, I hope this has been caught and corrected on the coming "Elvis Sings Guitar Man."

Both of these points are on my list to add to the first post soon, but I have some real-life intrusions that are interfering with my Elvis world.

(Nothing too serious, in case anyone cares ;) )

Nope. :D
Just kidding.
MT, thanks again for your observations. So is it possible that this is a NEW mastering error? IIRC, somebody stated that the drop-out is on the original vinyl album too?

With the Complete Masters back in people's minds because of the recent sale, does anyone have any fresh discoveries from the set, or other sets drawn from this remastering effort?

(The latest additions are the You Don't Know Me dropout [still unconfirmed whether this was present on the original '60s release] and the '68 Comeback Special medley tape distortion.)

The You Don't Know Know Me dropout is present on the Clambake '70s vinyl reissue I have.

The 68 comeback distortion problem sounds like tape damage.

Tomorrow Night is in Electronically Reprocessed StErEo. You can hear Elvis's voice out of phase through the entire cut. This is one instance they should have stuck with mono.

Stereo > mono > fake stereo.

The true mono 1965 mix can be heard on A Boy From Tupelo.

I don't have the Mint set but the remasters are the same thus the credits must also be the same.

Yes, but unfortunately running at a slower speed than what was on 1965's ELVIS FOR EVERYONE! album.

I have the franklin set and I can't find the credits listed anywhere. But these are the remasters, my ears tell me that.

My favorite version is the "Reconsider Baby" edit of "Tomorrow Night."
The overdubbed version on my old "Elvis For Everyone" CD sounds good too.

The Sun recording was slowed down by RCA in 1965 prior to overdubbing in an attempt to make the vocal sound older.

Thanks for that info Mathew. I hadn't realised. Having no means to play my old 'Elvis for Everyone' album to compare, is the version on 'Complete Masters' the same?

I guess the Franklin Mint set is no longer available because the site seems to be down... :(

Availability seems to come and go. The FM set was gone for quite awhile, but then returned again about midway through last year, and I was able to purchase a copy (well worth it for the sound quality of the songs; packaging, as others have noted, leaves much to be desired; I didn't mind the "themed" discs, but will place them in my own order for future listens anyway; repro SUN 209 45 RPM is awesome). Just keep an eye on the main franklintmint.com site for it. The dedicated site has probably been retired.

The main reason I did not go for the FM version is because I do not need a "themed" collection. I want a historical archive. And the Sony box is just that. I can make my own theme CDs from that archive. All these TV offer box sets, Reader's Digest, FM and the like since the 70's are into the cutsy themed CD (or LP) thing, NO THANK YOU, very much.

Thanks for that information... I can't recall what it was selling for but I know it's a fair bit cheaper than TCM with (from what I've been told here) are the same VA remasters... which is great news! If it becomes available for under $400 I just may grab a copy...
