It was not "destroyed when transferred." It was apparently wrecked after a digital copy was made. I appreciate the technical wizardry perhaps required when it is stated that: "Some parts duplicated and edited to create near-complete performances", about a number of the rare tracks, and perhaps that will make them on a certain level more "enjoyable" when it comes to entertainment value; but in terms of historical appreciation I would rather hear them as they exist (with audio restoration of course). If a chorus is not repeated or something like that, so be it as far as I'm concerned. But I will not judge too harshly until I hear the result. I hope such edits are thoroughly explained in the book or notes though.

On the other hand, if it is certain that what Elvis performed during that recording was different then what is preserved on a damaged acetate or tape, I suppose a tasteful restoration does make some sense. In a perfect world perhaps we would be given the unedited segments as well as the edited ones, but I admit I'd probably listen to the restored versions more often, so again, I'll reserve judgement. People who got unissued Elvis 1953-55 material should understand they MUST release them ASAP...acetates & tapes are very very fragile and get as much worse as time goes by. Damn !

Greg1995, I think the correct term would be "existed" vs. "exists". This was one of the reels that was discarded by RCA in the late fifties. Hound Dog 2000, for all of Shelby Singleton's claims, it appears that he had very little to share with FTD for this set. I had hopes that an unreleased fragment or complete song like "I Got A Woman" would be found, but that does not appear to be the case.

Actually, this was released officially on the excellent Bear Family "The Sun Country Years" 10 LP set around 1987. The recording was credited to (if I remember correctly) Scotty Moore and Jimmy Lott. The recording itself is Scotty's guitar reverb tape on the song. The vocal is buried deeply in the background, but a listen on headphones reveals that the vocalist is Elvis. Because the vocal is so far down in the mix on the version I have heard, I don't expect that we will hear Elvis very clearly on the song without a great deal of audio wizardry. However, we can always hope that the experts who worked on this project were able to improve the audibility of Elvis' vocal.
