Re: Will YOU buy the new MSG set?
Two different packages with the same shows in racks at the same time. The general public would go for the cheaper of the two and sales would suffer for both packages. I don't think Sony would make such a marketing mistake. Besides, the "Afternoon in the Garden" cd is still in the racks and still selling. And from all accounts the original mix on the MSG evening concert is awful. Haven't played my LP in a long time, so I can't tell about that. Why would anyone want a remaster of an awful mix?

Re: Will YOU buy the new MSG set?
Well I'll just say this. Vic Anesini did a wonderful job remastering the MSG show on the CM box set - it sounds fantastic. So I don't think the general public will have a problem with the sound quality.
Re: Will YOU buy the new MSG set?
When Legacy released the Cash San Quentin concert (or was it Folsom Prison - one or the other), there were two different editions - one with and one without the DVD. The packaging looks similar to the current re-release of the 4cd nbc tv special set.

A multi-track tape is the original tape that Elvis and the musicians recorded onto in the studio (including overdubs) and on stage. In the 70's this was usually a 16 track tape. It is this multi-track tape that gets mixed (or re-mixed). It is then transferred to a stereo master tape from which the records are cut. Stereo master tapes cannot be re-mixed, only re-mastered. I hope this helps.
thanks for that....I know nothing about the technical stuff you guys are talking about......so any useful info greatly appreciated;)

Re: Will YOU buy the new MSG set?
I think it's great Sony will play it safe and will be offering two versions of the product. I understand a few would want the evening show remastered with its original mix but a part of me also wants the evening show's new, fresher sound to to be availalbe to the casual fan who picks up the 2 disk version also.

Thanks for posting the ad.
I assume the 2 Disc Legacy Edition will have the original artwork for the evening show used on the front, leaving the new artwork only for the special edition 3 Disc "Prince From Another Planet" release?

I don't need the Legacy release, but I will definitely buy "Prince from Another Planet" to get the newly remixed concerts (and DVD).

Re: Will YOU buy the new MSG set?
So the 2 CD Legacy Edition is not re-mixed , but the 3 Disc package is ?

The re-mix is a selling point or marketing hook aimed at us hardcores as incentive to get us to shell out the bucks for this set.TCB-FAN wrote:So the 2 CD Legacy Edition is not re-mixed , but the 3 Disc package is ?

Re: Will YOU buy the new MSG set?
No it is not. Why are there so many people always trying to put a negative slant on Sony's releases?Pete Dube wrote:The re-mix is a selling point or marketing hook aimed at us hardcores as incentive to get us to shell out the bucks for this set.TCB-FAN wrote:So the 2 CD Legacy Edition is not re-mixed , but the 3 Disc package is ?
If they hadn't remixed the concerts, and just given us a remaster of the original mix, you would have probably moaned that the mix was in need of an upgrade.

Re: Will YOU buy the new MSG set?
Huh? Charlie, what "negative slant" are you talking about? The re-mix is in fact a selling point for the hardcore fans. And that's a good thing!Good Time Charlie wrote:No it is not. The way you've worded that, it sounds like you are complaining.
I'm just so used to it around here.
