:smt007 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 , there's certainly a lot to like on this 1980 TV Special Olivia Newton John - Hollywood Nights.

Be good to see this get an official upgraded blu-ray/DVD release :D

This was right around the time "Xanadu", the movie came out. Was ELO a part of this special in certain music numbers also ?? Naturally, I would assume...not that I have noticed so far.

Audio went silent around the 32 minute mark in one of her performances....youtube copyright :(

It definitely needs a DVD/Blu Ray outing, along with many, many other TV specials Livvie has done over the years. (too many to list !!!), including the one where she paired with ABBA from 1978.

  Sorry, to hear about that. Here, try this link. The "Gimme Some Lovin" sequence is intact.

NO ELO but there is Cliff Richard duetting with Olivia on Suddenly from the movie. Great "Heartaches Tonight" sequence at the end with ONJ, Tina, Toni Tennille, "Peaches" of "Peaches & Herb" fame, and at the end, Karen Carpenter.

a cool device ! But, can it do Elvis and the Beatles audience tapes ?

Such as reduce the screams, pan the drums to one side, guitar(s) to the other channel, backing vocals panned to one side, or in the case of JD Sumner remove his vocals on tracks such as "What Now my Love" ?

They'll still be audience remasters but with more of a listenable-defined stereo mix :D

1970: The SUPER KITCHEN of the FUTURE! | Tomorrow's World | Retro Tech | BBC Archive

William Woollard tests out a new 'Super Kitchen' - which uses futuristic design technology to minimize space, maximize storage and optimise cooking efficiency.

The centrepiece of tomorrow's kitchen is a revolving cylindrical column, which contains cupboard space, a dishwasher, a microwave oven, a refrigerator and a double oven. Ceiling units contain concealed lighting, storage units and plastic dispensers. The real revolution however, is a built-in domestic computer terminal, which you can use to quickly access recipes and work out cooking times. With all this state-of-the-art technology, the super kitchen of the future will make cooking so easy, even a man will be able do it.

Not too shabby. Quite accurate in fact, only we're using smart phones to program appliances in 2025. (timers, shut on/off, temps, etc....)

Really Great Short Songs of 2:30 Or Less...

Found this fascinating website that features a good look at the shortest 45's from the years 1948 to 2010 (in two-parts). Thought it was worth adding here.

Spectator gives Rafa the bird at Australian open :smt005 It's a combo of the spectator saying she was frustrated with Nadal's taking too long between serves and for having too much to drink. Historically, Nadal, Djokovic , Ivan Lendl and Jimmy Connors were 4 of the greatest time stallers in tennis.

We know most Television, and Radio programs along with their hosts, live and die by ratings. Certainly is a cut-throat industry.
The following is from the american 60 minutes program that covers how competitive the news industry was 51 years ago including a sleazy late-night news programming.

KNXT-2 "60 Minutes" San Francisco TV Ratings War...

"60 MINUTES" CBS News Mike Wallace looks at the San Francisco TV News Race. In the early 70's many stations across the US where changing the TV News formats to make it more Tabloid or Sensational.
Wallace went to all the main TV News broadcasters in the SF market KRON, KPIX, KGO (Kickers, Guts, Orgasm) , and watched how they where broadcasting the news. He questioned KPIX's News Director & CBS affiliate at the time on using Tabloid tactics on there broadcasts.
His reaction is worth watching.

No Rubber Soul Remix But We Get Anthology Again?! Seriously?!

*NO Rubber Soul Remix in 2025?!* In this video, TJR goes on a full-on *Beatles rant* about the growing rumor that Apple Corps and The Beatles are skipping a long-awaited *Rubber Soul Anniversary Remix and Box Set**, and are instead re-releasing the **Anthology CD series* from the 1990s—along with a possible Blu-ray reissue of the *Anthology documentary*.

interesting comment...

Michiel from the Dutch podcast Fab4Cast ran into Giles Martin on the London Underground in May last year. They chatted for a few minutes. Giles said he hadn't started mixing Rubber Soul yet but said a box set is planned for 2025.

Maybe they've found enough of the outtakes, alternates that can justify a 1965 boxed set. Fingers crossed.

EMI needs to squeeze that cash cow for as long as possible. The re-issue of Anthology is completely unnecessary, I guess the bean counters at EMI need to buy themselves more yachts for their collection. The same can be argued with Sony/FTD with regards to milking out the Elvis catalog. It's always ALLLL about the almighty greenback $$$$$$$. :x :x

Yes, I agree. But then again, where would you put Free as a Bird and Real Love upgraded restored tracks on as in what album?

As mention last week, these should have been done and added with "Now and Then" on the Red and Blue compilation in 2023.

It seems that they've strategically left those out and saved it for future upgrade on Anthology.

Underground bunker home, Vegas-style

Bunkers would make a perfect storage to put our Elvis or Beatles CDs, albums, books (and other collectibles) and keep in pristine.

1959: The AUDIOPHILE's Quest for PERFECT SOUND | Monitor | Retro Tech | BBC Archive -

"Do they like music? Or are they in love with equipment?"

Robert Robinson narrates a short film which explores a thoroughly modern phenomenon - the audiophile - that group of enthusiasts forever seeking out the highest fidelity audio possible. Whether it's eternally fidgeting with the transistors on a home wireless set, buying more and more expensive high-tech hi-fi equipment, or setting up a confounding obstacle course of wires and speakers to deliver the perfect sound in their living room, the audiophile's quest is seemingly never ending.

Directed by John Schlesinger.

clip taken from Montor: Hi-Fi-Fo-Fum, originally broadcast on BBC Television, 12 April, 1959.
