This has also been in the news here. And before anyone mentions it, I am aware the crocodile's a reptile but it makes sense to add it here rather than to start-up a thread.

MR. Kai Hansen is a national hero right now.

Now, check out his , and his pet crocodile Casey's, story.

This next animal is NO MORE :(

The legendary Thylacine (also known as the Tasmanian Tiger). Last species died in 1936 and became extinct.
But there is a chance, and some talk of maybe bringing it back through cloning.

Meet Benjamin...

https://7news.com.au/news/wa/world-first-scientific-breakthrough-could-see-numbat-dna-used-to-clone-tasmanian-tigers-c-5619026

Could a scientific breakthrough involving the humble numbat hold the key to one day resurrecting the Tasmanian tiger?

Researchers at the University of Western Australia and DNA Zoo Australia have mapped the numbat’s DNA for the first time using a blood sample provided by Perth Zoo.

The chromosome-length genome map is expected to significantly assist conservation efforts, with less than 1000 numbats remaining in the wild.

And according to UWA associate professor Parwinder Kaur, it could help scientists decode other close relatives - including the thylacine, which has been extinct since the 1930s.

Professor Kaur believes this will open up the possibility of bringing back the Tasmanian tiger, similar to efforts by US scientists to resurrect the woolly mammoth using DNA from an Asian elephant.

She says the numbat could share as much as 95 per cent of its DNA with its fellow carnivorous marsupial.

“We have come a long, long way in terms of technology development, and I don’t see a problem that in the next decade we will have the technology and we will have the know-how to de-extinct or resurrect our favourite species which are long gone,” she said on Tuesday.

“The more important thing which we’ve got in hand right now is one million species on the verge of extinction.

“We need to save them first ... before we start the Jurassic Park dream.”

Prof Kaur said advances in research and technology meant the numbat genome had cost just $1000, a far cry from the $2.7 billion cost associated with the first human genome map completed in 2009.

DNA Zoo Australia has identified more than 100 species for sampling at Perth Zoo, where hundreds of numbats have been bred and released into the wild.
The numbat could share as much as 95 per cent of its DNA with the Tassie tiger.

Should Scientists be playing God ???

Found this "A Current Affair" TV report that examines possible method to bring back the extinct Thylacine aka. the Tasmanian tiger.

Bringing back of the thylacine could occur within the next decade after a philanthropic gift of $5 million to the University of Melbourne to establish the Thylacine Integrated Genetic Restoration Research (TIGRR)...

Now, hows about this one from Thailand regarding a Jumbo mother elephant and her baby who fell in a drain.

The mother had also fallen in and needed C.P.R. in order to come to. The locals there desperately took such measures to resuscitate her. She and baby are OK now, bless them.

now, how about this young female bear from turkey. She over did the honey consumption but she's recovered now, bless her.

Turkish bear rescued after getting high on 'mad honey' -

A disorientated brown bear cub thought to be intoxicated on so-called "mad honey", has been rescued in Turkey's north-western Duzce province.

A video posted online showed the young female bear wobbling and whining in the back of a ute after being rescued from the forest.

"Mad honey", or "deli bal" in Turkish, is produced by bees from a certain type of rhododendron, and can have hallucinogenic effects.

The bear was taken to a vet, where it received treatment.

Authorities said the bear was in otherwise good condition and was likely to be released back into the wild in the next few days.

Turkey's agriculture ministry called on people on Twitter to come up with a name for the bear.

Mad honey originated in Turkey's Black Sea region and is produced in small quantities by beekeepers in the Kaçkar mountains.

It is legal to buy and sell in most countries, and attracts high prices.

Small amounts can cause light-headedness, feelings of euphoria and even hallucinations.

Too much, however, can cause dangerous blood pressure drops, nausea, fainting, seizures, arrhythmia and in rare cases, death.

The strange effects of mad honey have been documented for thousands of years.

Greek philosopher and military leader Xenophon described the impact of eating mad honey on soldiers during an expedition in 401 BC.

"The number of bee-hives was extraordinary, and all the soldiers that ate of the combs, lost their senses ... none of them were able to stand upright," he wrote.
