New "King Creole" publicity shot found?
On the cover of the August 1958 magazine below is a typically-gorgeous shot of Italian actress Sophia Loren.
But the inset photo appears to be a (reversed) "King Creole" publicity shot seen nowhere else since.
Am I correct?

Thanks to super-fan Glen Johnson, co-author of Inside King Creole, for the tip.

Thanks. One might think "King Creole" or 1950s devotees would be thrilled with this.

I am thrilled. It is a slight variation though, but they all count. This is one that was new to me on the front of this French mag. Similar black and white pictures are shown on pages 392 and 393 in the book "KC frame by frame".drjohncarpenter wrote:Thanks. In France, they kept the picture the right way round, but they added garish background colours AND changed the colour of Elvis' neck adournment!;
In the UK, we had Elvis looking the other way, but we made up for this in 1975 when record 3 of the Readers Digest box set gave us this fabulous cover of an alternate shot;

...and how's this for a spot of "King Creole" silliness??!! I picked up these 2 postcards whilst holidaying in Amsterdam in 1988 (I went to see the tulips!);

Re: New "King Creole" publicity shot found?
Yeah, that's certainly a nice find, now also in the gallery among with even more alternates.
For those interested, see here; --> http://elvicities.com/~epss/index.php/King-Creole-1958
But what's even more exiting to me is what we found only a day ago - a new shot for LY, which appears to be from a completely new 'shoot'; we haven't seen one single other shot so far with Elvis wearing these particular clothes. The 50s fans should be just as thrilled about this too, right?

Great shots from both King Creole and Loving You.
Thanks both. I´ve never seen either of them.
My guess is that the Loving You photo is from this session.

Re: New "King Creole" publicity shot found?
I think you're on to something, Brian.
I was looking at the shot you sent earlier today and thought it could be from the same shoot, but couldn't see those 'stripes' on the jacket lapel in the new shot - the reason for that might just be the fact that it's in a bit lesser quality, but I think I can see the "extended" part of the collar peeking just a tad in the (new) shot, and the color combination of the clothes looks the same so I'd say you're right. Good eyes you have.

The hits keep on coming!
On a sheet of foreign stamps we find yet another "King Creole" publicity shot seen nowhere else since.
Thanks once again to super-fan Glen Johnson, co-author of Inside King Creole, for the tip.

We have been struggling to find any new shots lately and in need of all the help we can get so we appreciate people like yourself posting any new publicity shots they come across.
We've already added that one in here > http://elvicities.com/~epss/index.php/King-Creole-1958
Thanks again

The Commorative Stamps look more like Elvis from It Happened At The Worlds Fair to me.drjohncarpenter wrote:The hits keep on coming!

Re: New "King Creole" publicity shot found?
No, it's definitely a "King Creole" PR photo. The hair and clothing are a match. The problem is the image has been colourized.mjsantafe wrote:The Commorative Stamps look more like Elvis from It Happened At The Worlds Fair to me.drjohncarpenter wrote:The hits keep on coming!

I think you are right. This looks like an exact match to me.mjsantafe wrote: The Commorative Stamps look more like Elvis from It Happened At The Worlds Fair to me.

And the jacket, shirt and the scarf are surely from this photo.

Re: New "King Creole" publicity shot found?
It's definitely not an exact match, neither the hair up top nor the neck or clothing match the 1962 image.The fool wrote:I think you are right. This looks like an exact match to me.mjsantafe wrote:The Commorative Stamps look more like Elvis from It Happened At The Worlds Fair to me.
However, looking closely, it seems someone may have cut-and-pasted the face (and left side hair and ear) onto an original "King Creole" portrait.
It's kind of creepy.

Again, why would someone bother? Very, very weird.

As the great John Prine once commented on why he nailed a model train track to his living room coffee table, "because he could".ranskal wrote:Not sure why people do this.
Fortunately, Elvis' look was very distinctive for each movie and the fans have seen the majority of these publicity photos for decades.
