Does someone have photos of Elvis wearing this suit and the band in purple?

This photo could be from Monroe 4th? since the band is not in white

Francesc, I've been looking at the March 74 tour this week-end and I studied that photo as well.

The band-platform does look like the one in Monroe but I was thought Elvis wore the Orange Sunburst on the 4th. But would he wear the same suit two days in a row?? He could have but I think it's more likely that he wore the Blue Starburst on the 4th.

I was looking at the other shows and he uses a handheld microphone with yellow tape at all shows. Except for this one. Just because he used a micropjone with yellow tape in Monroe on the 8th doesn't mean he couldn't have used the blue on the 4th.

Do you have any reviews from the first Monroe show with photos?? I have one but no photos. And it doesn't mention what kind of suit he wore.

Sincerely
Brian

Brian,

I contacted the Monroe Public Library beginning of 2008, and they sent me some reviews but there was no photos on them. Big disappointment. I contacted again to see if they can research deeper, I feel they left something out. Most likely they will send me to hell

Any chance that these photos might be from this Memphis show? Photos from the same angle have been on eBay, dated March 16th. What do you guys think?

Thanks The Fool. Those photos are definitely from Memphis, March 16.

Elvis wore the Aloha Eagle 4 times during 1974 (not counting Vegas).
March 6, Montgomery, band in blue
March 9, eve, Charlotte, band in yellow
March 12, Richmond, band in blue
March 16, memphis, band in yellow.

March 6 and 12 are out due to the band in blue.
On March 9 Kathy Westmoreland was in black while in your photo we can see that she's in white.

So yes, those three photos are definitely from Memphis. Cool.

Hmm... I wonder where the photo below is from then. I had it dated for Monroe March 8th but the chances of me being wrong are pretty close to 1...is it from Monroe or even from this tour??

Well Scott, the photo is definitely from the March 74 tour but it's harder to tell from which show.

We know for sure that Elvis wore the suit on March 8, 13, 17 (eve) and 19. He used a handheld microphone with yellow tape on all four shows which most likely means he used one with blue tape at the start of the show.

I've uploaded the March 74 tour on my website now which makes it a bit easier to see which suits he wore at the different shows. We're close now, only three shows left for which we have no photos. At least to my knowledge.

And this is the photo. The quality is bad, unfortunately, but it is a photo from the March 8th show. I have to check that article again to see if there is a photo of that cross that Elvis gave to Rhonda.

As for the March 4th show in Monroe, I found a review by Laura Lilliard in the March 27th 1974 issue of Worldwide Elvis News Service Weekly, which starts like this:

Elvis wore a white jumpsuit with blue and gold studs in a sunburst pattern & no cape. He used about 4 dark blue scarves only during the performance. A black guitar (with no karate emblem) was used which he discarded after the first song. James, Ronnie, Charlie, etc. wore purple jumpsuits, The Sweet Inspirations wore yellow outfits, Voice wore yellow also, and The Joe Guercio Orchestra wore blue outfits.

Thanks a lot The Fool.
This is the kind of stuff we need to go a step further and maybe place a photo on March 4, 1974.

How about this one. Elvis in the Blue Stauburst suit with Charlie in purple and the band-platform also fits for Monroe.

I'd say we have a winner here.

I was going to post that photo too from previous meesage but I was visioning the orange sunburst, I guess there is room for Blue starbust with that description ...??

The platform is really really the same than the other Monroe photos.

I can't help noticing that as far as Elvis' appearance goes, this description corresponds perfectly with the photo I posted earlier; but, as no bandmembers are visible, no conclusions can be drawn, right?

But isn't that blue tape around the mic in the small pic, too,..?

Frances, I thought I had already posted these but I obviously hadn't.

As for the Blue Vine suit we know that Elvis wore it on March 11, 14 and 18 only. On both the 11th and the 14th Elvis wore a blue scarf at the start of the show while in these photos he wore a white scarf so they'd be from the 18th. You can also see the white scarf in the review posted earlier in this thread.

Scott, I already explained this above when you posted the photo.

Whenever (during this tour at least) Elvis used a microphone with blue tape while using the guitar at the start of the show he would use a handheld microphone with yellow tape when he had discarded the guitar.

So your photo above with the blue tape could be from any of the shows I mentioned in my first answer.

Hope this answers your question.

Sincerely
Brian

So, the only time he used a handheld microphone with blue tape (as in the small picture posted by you) would be in Monroe, March 4th?

In the Blue Starburst suit and during the March 1974 tour that would be almost correct Scott.
I say "almost" because we still don't have any photos from the afternoon show in Knoxville on March 15. He wore the same suit here (as far as we know)
