(New to me) Picture I found on Instagram

Yeah for sure August. I think the caption was August 28? There's one candid on Paul's page in which he looks exceptionally well (and thin!). This engagement is pretty good in my opinion, even during the last week he sings quite well (when he doesn't talk that is).

Edit: when I searched for it it's actually all of the candids taken during and right after this engagement.

This looks like the suit that was posted somewhere recently (an auction?) that was similar to the other leather suits of August '74 but with a different colour and design.

Edit: the time Elvis seemed more interested in wearing funny hats or big glasses or carrying around large stuffed animals than performing is generally the time I stop listening to the concerts from that period onwards.

Great unpublished picture of Elvis on stage in Las Vegas in 1974! Elvis can be seen wearing one of his tan leather outfits that he wore that year...as well as a very unusual hat! The back of the picture reads "Dinner Show 8/27/74 Tues. Las Vegas Maria Losite gave Elvis this hat."

Don't agree with that rather harsh assessment. The North Beach Leather outfits were a refreshing and contemporary change from the jumpsuits and huge belt buckles which would become a cliche after his death. From most angles, Elvis looked thinner in them, too.

As for the hat, the photo is just a moment in time. It's very likely it sat on his head for no more than five seconds. He was just entertaining the folks.

The outfits were a breath of fresh air and at this point, he never should have gone back to the jumpsuits. As far as the hats go, as mentioned, Elvis always put them on his head when given to him. He'd pose for a few seconds, take it off and move on. The audience loved it. Pretty sure he knew he looked silly, but that was part of the act.

Most angles, he looked fine. In the jumpsuits it was a different story.

He should've stuck with North Beach Leather for a while longer.

I agree, however I think there's only a handful of shows that are weak. Most of them are quite enjoyable, especially in the first week when he didn't talk that much. But even in the last week
the shows are quite good: I listened to the August 30 show the other day and it's a solid show if you don't mind the talking.

Another batch that's new to me. The poster on Instagram described them as coming from the September 6 / 7 1970 3 A.M. show (no discussion about this please ). Can anyone confirm these are from that show? Elvis appears to be wearing the Metal Eye suit.
