I'd have to say that I've heard many many Elvis shows, and Houston '76 is probably his all-time worst. I've never heard Elvis struggle with timing as much as he did in this show. Drugs are bad, m'kay?

Elvis and Dr Nick had a falling out prior to this tour and so Dr Ghanem went along who really didn't know Elvis's medication requirements prior to and after a show. Vernon and The Colonel had to beg for Dr Nick to return to the tour and Elvis had to apologise to Dr Nick. It had come to the situation that Elvis required many drugs/medications just to perform and to live. Very sad indeed.

Both can be found on Pauls candid central along with additional pictures:

The first picture was also featured on the inside panel of the "Houston, we have a problem..." cover.

They all look exactly like the singer sounded.

Elvis was at the slow road to death in 1976, like Peter Guralnick wrote in Careless Love.

I'd heard about this show not too long after it happened and after listening to the Houston We Have A Problem" cd it was even worse than i ever imagined.

Yes, dead tired and overmedicated. Poor guy.
