Never saw the suit before but appears to be one of several from the North Beach Leather Company. These suits were popular among male celebrities in the mid 70s, so similar designs can be seen over the internet.

I pretty much doubt it was worn on stage by Elvis, particularly since the August-September 1974 Las Vegas engagement is extensively documented. But, never say never, as over the years photographic evidence of rare stagewear has surfaced (Second picture wearing the black fringe March 1975, Aztec Star with original belt April 1973 and the Blue Pinwheel Vegas 1973).

Thanks so much! I don't think I've seen this before. Really weird looking suit. Strange that only these two have surfaced after all those years. You'd think that opening night would have been covered by media and photographers...and yet there are other examples of opening night shows in Vegas were we seemingly don't have any or only very few pictures.

Don't we have photos from every August / September 1974 show (or at least some information on the suit he was wearing)? Unless some photos are incorrectly dated, he could only have worn this suit in March 1975. It's also possible that Elvis wore this suit in his free time in Vegas jn between concerts however.

Great catch! I’ve never noticed that before in the original photo we had of this suit. So the fringes are supposed to be eagle feathers? Interesting.

If it's the dark pixels on the left chest, I think it's the floppy collar of the vest rather than an eagle head. Notwithstanding this, we have eyewitness reviews of Anne Nixon of some form of 'eagle'. Could well be at the back of the vest, since no back picture is available...to date.

I think the "new" leather suits are never worn. Like I said, it could have been worn in March 1975 or maybe Lake Tahoe October 1974, but as we all know Elvis didn't like leather suits and switched back to jumpsuits in the second half of the August / September engagement, so they are probably never worn.

Like Medleyofcostumes said, I have my information from Anne Nixon saying Elvis wore a suit with an eagle on it, and thought "hey that looks like the head of an eagle" but I don't have any more in formation, so don't know about the feathers. They could very well be the feathers, but like Medleyofcostumes said, the eagle also could be at the back.

I hope some day better pictures or the suit itself will appear. This may be one of the worst documented opening shows he ever did in Las Vegas...Does anyone know what happened to the suit? Does Graceland have it somewhere in an attic?

I’ve read that the back had an eagle painted on it. I think this was likely a North Beach Leather suit or at least jacket that he may have normally worn as street clothes.
