Alfred Wertheimer, During a train trip from New York to Memphis, Elvis Presley stands in line to buy lunch on the platform to buy lunch, Sheffield, Alabama, July 4, 1956. Elvis had been in a New York for appearance on the 'Steve Allen Show' and to record the songs 'Hound Dog' and 'Don't Be Cruel'; he was on his way home to Memphis.
Just so cool, a great period in Elvis' life, on a crest of a wave not quite a global superstar but still able to buy food and travel with relative safety. This is the guy I would want to speak to.

It's utterly glorious, and almost looks like it was painted by Norman Rockwell.
Thanks for posting.

Thank you for the reminder of Norman Rockwell Americana, the attached Norman Rockwell picture is almost like someone taking a selfie, something the picture makes good use of and pulls you in to view of a middle class family. A place where many of us would love to have lived.George Smith wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 11:14 pmIt's utterly glorious, and almost looks liked it was painted by Norman Rockwell.

Re: Elvis - Alabama, July 4, 1956
Rigth!! And this looks like the only selfie to have ever been taken of Elvis. LOL. It shows him wearing the Omega by Tifanny's wristwatch in 18 kt white gold and 24 diamonds, gifted to him by RCA on the 24th of December of 1960, and for what would turned out to be the last time, as he would exchange it for a 14 kt yellow gold Hamilton Ventura being worn by a person he didnt even know but who was seated at the adjoining table. The place was the showroom at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas, and this was in March of 1961. The watch, which the nephew of the guy who made the exchange with Elvis inherited, in 2017, sold it at Phillips in 2018 for $1.8m, the buyer being Omega...Matt Ashton wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2023 12:19 amThank you for the reminder of Norman Rockwell Americana, the attached Norman Rockwell picture is almost like someone taking a selfie, something the picture makes good use of and pulls you in to view of a middle class family. ii) Forty seven years later, in 2018, a long, long, long struggle to get that watch ensued, across the Atlantic Ocean and right in the middle of Western Europe.
