Priscilla Presley wants the world to see Quebec's Elvis Presley Experience
Martin Fontaine's tribute show going on a world tour after 12 nights in Montreal

Priscilla Presley, the widow of one of rock's most iconic figures, wants the world to see how a Quebecer has brought him back to life.

The Elvis Presley Experience, a tribute show by actor-singer Martin Fontaine, has enjoyed three successful seasons in Quebec City. It has also done well in Las Vegas and Paris. And after a 12-show run in Montreal next month, it will hit Turkey, Israel, and South Korea.

Hopefully, it will be just the beginning, the 70-year-old Presley said.

"I want to give other countries the experience to see what it's like being in Elvis's show," she said during a stop in Montreal to promote it.

"It's important for me to keep his legacy going, to have a young generation find out what was Elvis all about, why he's so beloved."

..

To Presley, Fontaine's performance is the most faithful to what it was like to see the real thing on stage. And that, she says, is because he doesn't try to look or sound like Elvis, unlike the legions of impersonators out there.

"Martin is an actor. He's not trying to be Elvis. He doesn't try to look like Elvis. He transforms himself on stage.

"It's like being at the Hilton in Las Vegas watching Elvis. It was very surreal for me."

Last year, Presley produced the album If I Can Dream, with 14 of Elvis's favourite songs. Original master tapes of his voice were used along with Britain's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Canadian crooner Michael Bublé collaborated on the song Fever.

"I saw Bublé in concert singing Fever, and thought would be great to have that collaboration," she said. "The blending on their voices was nice little plus to the album."

The Elvis Presley Experience will show at Théâtre St. Denis from March 16 to 27. Tickets are $88.50 and can be purchased online.

Jeez...
You know though, this whole "tribute artist" thing seems to be gaining ground. As I arrived at work tonight I overheard someone saying that they had just come from a David Bowie tribute show and how great it was. This kind of thing just isn't for me.
And here is yet another article proclaiming Pricilla as Elvis' "widow" I don't know why that grates on me as much as it does... but it does.

Pass. However, the guy does sound an awful lot like Tom Jones when singing "Tiger Man" (2:11-2:15).

Why are all those ETA's lacking the charisma that Elvis had. This Fontaine guy looks much too serious. As most of them do. Elvis had a kind of "tongue in cheek" expression. And when he sang with his heart, you could feel it in your own.

..

No comparison. Give me a hologram concert anytime, or a very good compilation of some fantastic footage out there, but please, not this!!

About time Priscilla retired. She's actually getting on my nerves... "Elvis would've loved this, loved that", "he'd be so proud for his legacy". Even in death she seems to know everything he's thinking.

Well, it was sadly bound to happen sooner or later, ever since EPE started to put their "stamp of approval" on these shows ...wouldn't surprise me if they would host regular shows in their new expensive hotel.

"Elvis would've loved this, loved that", "he'd be so proud for his legacy". I think it beggars belief that she didn't know all about her husband's musical tastes; one would have thought, in regards to his profession, that she would be better informed than "But I didn’t know he liked Mozart and Brahms.” (http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/oct/22/priscilla-presley-elvis-spirit-speaks-to-me-its-beautiful)

Even the headline on that article just paints us Elvis fans in yet again negative light *sigh*

Here's what it's all about..."It's important for me to keep his legacy going, to have a young generation find out what was Elvis all about, why he's so beloved." If you read this correctly, she's saying sales are dwindling and they need the next generation to keep the money rolling in. Well, this is the wrong way to do it IMO.

Indeed, Tim, these shows are about money. If she truly cared for his legacy she would have kicked out the impersonators. And the Elvis ducks while she is at it.

Sadly, it's all about the money. Just get a sizable tv with a home theater system along with TTWII and you will know what it was to be there alot better than going to this show.

The only positive thing regarding this show is that it is at least done (or so it seems) in a professional way...orchestra and all.

I think because Elvis has been dead for so long they've run out of ways to promote him.
This is just throwing crap at the wall to see if it will stick.

His "Widow", as the article says, must be losing her mind at old age...NO ETA'S PERIOD!!! (Or actors playing Elvis, which is no different than an ETA..) have a Hologram if they are going to tour.. I think EPE should become a democracy and we the fans should vote.. :facep:

People enjoy him!?! It's not that he doesn't sound like Elvis, he doesn't. It more about him being not very good as a vocalist. I'm at a total loss. :(

This Martin Fontaine is the same guy that was hand-picked by Priscilla and EPE to open the "Graceland Presents ELVIS: The Exhibition in Vegas" at the Westgate Resort & Casino last year.

If anyone is interested, here is a link to a review of that show:

http://vegasseven.com/2015/04/29/elvis-experience-just-hunka-hunka-lukewarm-love/

According to EPE, "The business relationship between EPE and LCQ (Le Capitole de Quebec) began in 1996 when the Elvis Presley name and image, used as part of the "Elvis Story" production, were first licensed by EPE.

"'At the time, it was the very first musical revue in the world to receive such permission from EPE,' recalls Executive VP of EPE Gary Hovey." (excerpt from EPE announcement, 05-15-2013)

Just for fun  :

Sadly that doesn't make him any better than the rest of em! It's time to move on from this second rate shtick, and get back to producing projects that involves the REAL DEAL .....

Nothing beats the real deal. You're absolutely right!

EPE should invest their money on restoring, saving and gaining high quality footage. Starting with the Dorsey shows, On Tour, TTWII outtakes (full concerts), Hawaii '57 and most of all what is out there. I am sure that with the right amount of packaging, marketing and promotion this will do his legacy much more good than anything else. Promote the real deal indeed. Not bad singer-actors.
