I always enjoy reading Elvis' quotes too, he was always so humble, such a wonderful trait.

A lot of white people believe it, too. They've heard it, and "know" it. More evidence, for certain people, that he was just a "simple and plain" hick.

You can't completely kill a lie like this. It's one of those "big lies." One of history's leading sociopaths was right about that.

I think if fans set a good example, maybe that'll help. But I don't know.

Elvis looks so stricken in that interview photo. So deeply hurt. And helpless.

I must admit, I don't see this in the photo.

What seems most evident is an earnest desire to set the record straight: Elvis didn't have a problem with someone because of the color of their skin.

If only everyone felt the same.

Oh, I agree with the latter, certainly. But if I zoom into his face, that's what I see. I would be very upset if it were me who had been accused of this. . It's hard to imagine.

It's not just some "black folks" who feel Elvis was a racist. Deceased and discredited Presley biographer Albert Goldman implies as much in his 1981 biography, and many other people of various background and upbringing believe the same.

One thing I do suspect is the slur printed in the article is unsourced, and the entire piece simply meant to engender debate over the legitimacy of Elvis Presley's music and success. Supposedly he either made the racist comment in Boston (where he'd never been), or on CBS-TV's "Person to Person" with Edward R. Murrow (which he'd never appeared on).
