Woman with Elvis no longer a mystery
Original Publication Date: January 8, 2000
By Michael Lollar
For 27 years, the mother says she has remained silent, watching over and over as her daughter showed up in photographs on a motorcycle with Elvis Presley.
Each time, the daughter has been referred to as "an unidentified woman." "I just didn't want her to go on as an unidentified woman," says the mother, Peggy Selph Cannon of Bartlett, after the photograph appeared in The Commercial Appeal's special Turn of the Century section on Jan. 1.
Cannon says her daughter, Kathleen `Kathy' Selph, then 20, was being driven home by Elvis when the picture was shot by a photographer for The Commercial Appeal in June 1972. A neighbor showed her the photograph in the newspaper that week, and Cannon says she "reprimanded" her daughter for dating a married man. That's when she learned that Elvis and Priscilla Presley had separated.
The daughter, who had moved out of her parents' home, had been working as a dancer and singer at the old Whirlaway Club, where a member of Elvis's Memphis Mafia noticed she resembled Priscilla Presley, says Selph's brother, Steve. His sister and Elvis were introduced and dated for a while, he says.
It ended less than a month after the photograph was taken when Selph died in an automobile accident. "There was a real nice spray of flowers at her funeral from the Presley family. And there was a huge orchid at the funeral. I always felt it came from Elvis," says Cannon, who remarried after the death of her husband, former deputy fire chief E. B. Selph.
2) Why is she apparently wearing only underpants? (I hate to be irreverent about the tragic ending to a very young life, but . . . curiosity got the better of me . . .)
"And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God." Aeschylus
"Treat me mean and cruel, treat me like a fool, but love me!"
Check out the expression on the faces of the young fellow(s) in the car. Something tells me it has NOTHING to do with Elvis! (The driver looks a bit stunned, and almost disapproving. But after recovery, the younger person with the shocked expression might well have asked "Daddy, why is that girl almost NAKED on that bike with Elvis?") Ya think? I mean, LOOK. It should be in an encyclopedia of facial expressions under "shock, surprised, stunned."

Elvis just told her to "Take the damn thing off !"
Which she did................

Never heard about hotpants? They were the newest and hottest in clothing back in the 1970´s
When I was a child I was a dreamer,
I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book
And I saw movies and I was the hero in the movie
So every dream I´ve ever dreamed has come true a hundred times.

Heard about 'em? I saw them. These must be . . . at the boiling point.
rjm (I feel terrible , on account of what happened to her, but it is an unusual group of photos!)
P.S. -- No one answered the other question. "Why does his face look like that?" Anyone??????? It was only '72!

Any other photos from that time where his face looked like that?

Sorry for dragging up an older thread but Elvis's facial expression, to me, looks like he's pissed that someone took his picture.
"If the songs don't go over, we can do a medley of costumes!" - Elvis Presley (August 10, 1970 backstage in his dressing room before the first show of the August, 10, 1970/September 8, 1970 season in Vegas).
I read somewhere, now if I'm wrong, don't jump all over me! But as I recall the article, there was a HUGE dog Elvis was looking at and he said something to the effect of "holy sh*t!...don't move!" Anyone else?
