Quite true SLGM. I for one would certainly buy a copy!
check the second pic: Elvis without his glasses
I always thought Elvis looked better without his sunglasses.

Great photos and info, like always, again, thank you very much :smt006
Well, i have a problem with some photos, i don't know the right context:

#1 Image

#2 Image

#3 Image

#4 Image

Photo #1 - it's clear, Elvis is being introduced with Priscilla beside him at the US Jaycee prayer breakfast.
Photo #2 - it's clear, signing autographs and posing for photos, leaving to his hotel (same suit like photo #1).
Photo #3 and #4 - Elvis wear another suit, this is what i don't understand.
At ten o’clock, after a speech by West Memphis political operative Deloss Walker, subbing for Arkansas governor Dale Bumpers, breakfast was followed by a forum and a question and answer session that was closed to the press. (...) Standing next to presidential press secretary Ron Ziegler, his rings prominently on display, Elvis was asked if he felt that today’s music had an adverse effect on young people. (...) The prayer breakfast ended with a query about religious beliefs. (...) Afterward Elvis broke off from signing autographs and posing for photos.

After the breakfast Elvis go to his hotel, change the suit and return for 10 a.m. forum? Maibe anyone can help me with the right order of the photos. Thank you.

With all the travel from Vegas back to Memphis, not sleeping in his own bed at home, excitement/nervous about the event; I'm sure he was worn out by the end of it all. Elvis was also a nite person so it doesn't surprise me he looks better in the evening photos than the ones from the prayer breakfast. All of that probably contributed to his catching the flu by the Vegas opening...which was not all that good. He was much better the latter half of that engagement. This would happen again in Aug...after a stunning engagement in Tahoe and only a few days off he's back at the Hilton for 2 a days for 4 weeks. He gets sick again...surprise, surprise, and has to change his whole set list because he can't sing alot of the demanding songs he was performing at the time due to voice problems. 80+ shows in 7 weeks.

Wonderful photo. I wonder what everyone was looking at him for b/c it appears that he's just sitting there looking down at his trophy. But apparently he was the star of the party.

"I was just not ready for someone that theatrical."
"His entrance into the dining room was electric."

I like these instances where Elvis maximizes the full wattage of his charisma and star power. His entrance drained the room of conversation. At the same time, his boyish enthusiasm for this award humanizes him and I find the contrast therein both fascinating and appealing. I'm an Elvis fan, in-part, because both things were true of Elvis at the same time.

Thank you for the words and pictures. Great post!
