Re: Bob Dylan. Just when you thought you had everything...
This has been a nightmare scenario for me. Here's what happened:
My box was scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, but on Friday I got a message to say that it had been sent and was now out for delivery. Arriving Friday. I had arranged to have it sent to a local newsagents for collection because I knew that it was too big to go through the letterbox, and this way I could go and pick it up at any time I wanted. Amazon are supposed to send me a text message when the item comes in, so I know when I can collect it.
On Friday afternoon it still hadn't arrived, and the woman in the shop said that they'd had their delivery for that day, so I went home and rang Amazon. They told me that there was no trace of the parcel, the carriers couldn't find it, so I should wait until the end of the day and then they would re-order it for me. I pointed out that they were no longer stocking the box, it was a limited edition, and indeed they then confirmed that they weren't going to be able to get any more. So I was told that I should buy it somewhere else if I could, and they would refund my money. But not until the end of the day, even though they agreed that it had gone missing.
Everywhere has sold out. None at HMV, and SPIN are only getting USA copies, at a premium price, so in the end I ordered it from Amazon Italy, and that one is coming on Tuesday. OK so far?
On Friday night I got an email saying that my original parcel had been delayed, but it was still coming...
I've had no texts or emails to say that it's arrived in the shop, but this morning the woman who works there rang me to say that it's in. It actually came in yesterday, so I've been to collect it. As far as Amazon are concerned though, it still hasn't arrived. So now, thanks to their incompetence, I'm going to have two copies of the same box set, unless I can send the second one back to Italy, and I have no idea at all whether that's going to be possible without some expense on my part.
Anybody ever sent a parcel back to Amazon Italy, and got a refund?

Amazon faffed me around with the stones mono box, I ended up getting it from HMV; I thought with the availability of this Dylan box being on then off, my chances of receiving said box may be slim but I was pleasantly surprised. The Pirate wrote:This has been a nightmare scenario for me. Here's what I would do - if you can't cancel the Italy one and you do end up with two, if they are identical and both okay, just tell Amazon UK it's arrived, get the UK one returned cuz you've changed your mind thanks to their incompetence and keep the Italian one... or at least tell them that and just keep the best looking one of the pair that suits you and send the other back. I returned a CD to Amazon UK (looked like it'd been used for sand paper duties despite being 'new') and they get a courier to collect, worth a morning stuck in if you want proof of return.
Or if you end up with two and get a refund for one, it might do well on eBay...
You would think in this day and age nothing could be easier than pre-ordering something then having it delivered on release day but apparently not. Good Luck with it all...

Yes, good idea about returning the Italian one to Amazon uk. That's if they're identical, and I have this idea that when it comes it will at least have a sticker on the shrink wrap that makes it different. I should have not opened the parcel this morning, but my son would have gone nuts.

There's at least one UK supplier saying that the release date in the USA isn't until this Friday (18th).Mike C wrote:I am still waiting my on popmarket to ship my copy which I ordered early in October.

I would hope popmarket.com (owned by Sony) could ship the box earlier than that! The Pirate wrote:There's at least one UK supplier saying that the release date in the USA isn't until this Friday (18th).Mike C wrote:I am still waiting my on popmarket to ship my copy which I ordered early in October.

The second one has arrived, and guess what? It's got a sticker on the shrink wrap indicating that it's an Italian copy. So I can only send it back to Amazon Italy, and there's something rather worrying about the prospect of committing my £100 parcel to the post in the hope that I eventually get my money back. When In Rome wrote:Amazon faffed me around with the stones mono box, I ended up getting it from HMV; I thought with the availability of this Dylan box being on then off, my chances of receiving said box may be slim but I was pleasantly surprised. The Pirate wrote:This has been a nightmare scenario for me. I'm going to email Amazon UK and see what they are prepared to do about a situation caused by their own cock-up. Nothing, probably.

Typical innit? If you'd left it to chance you'd probably ended up with none! I'm sure Amazon must be able to help with their superb logistics team and myriad of intrepid delivery guys, who apparently are so busy they have to relieve themselves in bags and bottles. Or something...The Pirate wrote:The second one has arrived, and guess what? It's got a sticker on the shrink wrap indicating that it's an Italian copy. Good luck, we've all been there I'm sure, facing the obligatory hot pan of unnecessary courier mither!

Credit where credit is due, after speaking to one of their telephone helpers I've been given the go-ahead to return the original box to Amazon UK for a full refund, even though it's opened and the discs have been played. So I can't fault them as far as that goes.
