Concert statistics and more....

#521319

Post by Ciscoking »

In the days of so many concerts being released more and more fans get interested in questions like how many shows did our man give..how many are available on CD in which format..how many shows in each tour..how many Vegas and Tahoe shows etc..

I have listed 1126 concerts from 31.7.1969 till 26.6.1977.

637 Vegas shows
98 Tahoe shows
391 Tour and others

Divided into years this means:
1969: 57 concerts (17 available on diff.sources)
1970: 138 concerts (50 ----------------------------)
1971: 156 concerts (59-----------------------------)
1972. 165 concerts (87-----------------------------)
1973: 166 concerts (100-----------------------------)
1974: 155 concerts (111----------------------------)
1975: 107 concerts (88------------------------------)
1976: 127 concerts (117----------------------------)
1977: 55 concerts (53-------------------------------)

When I add all these shows I have again 1126....

In brackets I have listed the amount of shows which are available at the moment on import, official and CDR releases.
Adding the shows on CD makes 682.....exactly the amount that some fans have..which could be a proof of being correct..

Thanks for the info Ciscoking. It's so often forgotten by non-fans just how hardworking Elvis was throughout his carear. It's amazing just how many shows he did on his return to live performances. It's also quite incredible just how many of those concert performances were recorded in one way or another and have found there way to the fans. Thanks for the update on the current state of play.

Using your data I just did a quick calculation on the percentage of live releases. For some reason they build by year. Is this due to the increasing use and mobility of handheld recording equipment, the higher availability of sound board recordings, or the fans love of latter day Elvis performances? (Answers ona post card please...!)
Whatever, the extremely high percentage of releases from 1974 -77 is remarkable.
The table format has gone awol but hopefully you can make sense of it. Percentages are in bold.
Shows Releases Across %
1969 57 16 28
1970 138 46 33
1971 156 56 36
1972 165 85 52
1973 166 92 55
1974 156 107 69
1975 107 88 82
1976 128 114 89
1977 55 52 95
1128 656

I wonder, is there any other artist that has quite such a high number of released live performances (official or otherwise), especially artists performing during the 1970's? Also, is there any artist that has performed quite so many concerts over an 8 year period? I'm not looking for another Elvis record (He's surely got enough of those), I'm just interested to get this high number of performances into some kind of perspective. (Doc: As resident forum fan of the hardworking Bruce Springsteen you may have have some figures on hand to be able to provide a comparison of concert appearances??? I guess also Bob Dylan on his never ending tour may also chart up some highish figures).

I also had a quick look what percentage of concerts Elvis gave by year out of the total 1128.

Shows Down %
1969 57 5
1970 138 12
1971 156 14
1972 165 15
1973 166 15
1974 156 14
1975 107 9
1976 128 11
1977 55 5
1128 100

This analysis of the percentage of concerts Elvis did per year from the 1128 total is also quite interesting (if you're into meaningless statistical analysis). Between 1975-1977 Elvis really was easing up on the number of concerts he gave. The renegotiation of the Vegas contract reducing the length of the Elvis seaon and number of shows he needed to give is obviously a factor here. But was he easing off for health reasons? I'd be interested in anyone's views.
