Some of you guys are being very unfair on PEP, who has personally invested a lot of his time in this site. I do think a solution other than complete deletion should be pursued, and in the other thread, PEP at least indicated he agreed with the idea of keeping the board intact, albeit frozen. But it may not even come to that. Without wishing to sound like a broken record, warnings and (temporary-permanent) suspensions could be given to repeat offenders, letting everyone else continue as we have been. On the other hand, posting to a MB is a privilege, not a right. We also all need to remember that.

Speaking of the real world: If you are in a pub and don't behave (I mean, if you really get obnoxious, not just dropping a bad word here or there, and not just having a negative opinion on something the majority thinks positively about), you get warned and then thrown out. I've missed the "controversy" but it's nothing like the wild place this was just a few years ago - and even then, I felt that most of it was manageable. I'm inclined to agree with Tallhair's Dutch (and American) perspective that free speech tends to take care of itself.

So moderators have been adopted from time to time, but let's not get carried away - this place is a lot saner than ever before. ("Graceland Gardy" - we hardly knew ye! " )

Seriously, most of us only have time to check in from time to time and may miss some of the brushfires mentioned. A few years ago, nearly every thread was polluted -that's hardly the case today.

if both gentlemen are a wee bit tired, after quite some hardworking years,
running the site. Yes, I would miss it for the simple reason, some of the best
informed fans available post here regularly. A lot of loonies too, not excluding
myself for 100%. But we've had a lot of interesting discussions here, one
wont find anywhere else. Vibrators and goats aside.
There's nowhere else to go. Not for me anyway. I dont wanna drown in a sea
of belts and capes talk. There's been many topics on the 50s on FECC in
recent times. And I for one, finds it important the younger ones learn about
when and how things started, over half a century ago...

I'm going to try and make this as clear as possible, I have the feeling more threads are going to go in the future, Not because any One member has requested a thread to be deleted, but because as a example the latest thread that went this morning was all my doing, I will No longer Tolerate anyone not getting along, if I see this happening and I feel I do not have time to edit or waste my time going through PM's all day, I will just delete the thread and be done with it

You will no longer tolerate people not getting along? That does sound a little ridiculous to me. You can't police how people feel about each other. You're talking about deleting threads where no one has even complained?That seems like over-reaching and making work for yourself. Sure, take action where really abusive and offensive language is used, but not when it's simply people forcefully disagreeing.

Anyway this coming weekend I will be having a chat with the other administrators, my vote in going in for closing the board down, because No matter how hard I try some just do not get it...

And would you be suggesting the board should close if you weren't the moderator? It seems that your vote is more about relieving yourself of the stress of moderating. There's an easier way to do that - just quit and go back to being a regular contributor. If it really has ceased to be fun, that's the best option.

I agree with the three strikes idea, but strikes should be reserved for truly abusive behaviour, not simply to police personality clashes or differences of opinion.

I remember a case where you (under your former screen name) have been harassed by someone on this message board. You asked the admin to take action, and you complained that it took him so long to do so.

But of course such action should be restricted to cases where someone is here just to spam etc., and not be applied for just having an opinion, be it a strong one or not, and neither for occasional bad language.

The threads where I advocated free speech, such as the first Elvis religion thread, or the the-avatar-has-to-show-Elvis-in-a-positive-light-thread have all been deleted. Maybe I'm too liberal?

Yes, that's the incident I mean. And you were perfectly right to ask the admin to stop her from posting.

The point I'm trying to make is that there should be someone who decides whether it is still a normal heated quarrel about EIC on DVD or whether it is harassing, spamming etc., and takes action in the latter case.

From PEP's remarks it sounds like he's getting a lot of PMs from members either complaining or asking him to sort something out on the mb. Obviously, he feels he has to respond in some way even if it's only to check through a thread. First off I going to have to apologize I made this out to be more than it what it was or is out of frustration, mainly I guess only because of a couple of members who should know better, plus because of me having to put in too many hours at my own company as I did over 80 hours this week.

So all in all this response of mine was also from a lack of sleep as I normally have more patience with this sort of thing. So for that I apologize for.

95% of this board has been going all good in my opinion, tho there are always little bump's along the way which is expected.

Still I along with the administrators are always looking at ways of improving and keeping this board positive.

My personal frustration right now is with a few members of this board because of the fact Number One, Two that come to mind play a big role in the Elvis World in my opinion and on this board and really I like them both for different reasons, yet I know neither any better than the other or really personally.

Yet, I know and I know some of you members know they obviously do not like each other and never will, by the looks of things, which is what it is, still whatever they do, doesn't need to effect the board.

However, I realize too, that if either One were deleted not too many people would be happy on both sides of the fence, at the same time the message board could certainly continue without them, because in reality it would not be the end of the world, still it would be a shame if it did come to that, meaning to have to delete either of their accounts.

But there just has to be a way where they get the hint and just stay on topic without the back and forth insults, One does it a little bit more dimplomatic or cold while the other just kinda spills the beans, and threaten's others out of the blue, who are doing nothing but maybe agreeing with the One this person doesn't like, so that makes him the enemy by default.

So again that is another good reason that everyone should stay on topic and keep the personalities out it.

Anyway if this continues between them, which I'm guessing it will, One of my idea's is to just lock the thread instead of delete, after locking the thread I will point out who was responsible for locking the thread, so all can see.

I think this might work out better then just deleting the whole thread, because I found once it's out of sight out of mind everyone forgets and then it just continues, however I feel that if they continue to be seen that they have been selfish enough to continue their feud on their own and have caused too many thread's to be locked because of what they have done for all to see, they may finally get the hint that what they are doing is wrong and it should have been best to stay on topic all along instead of taking something away from the other members who were enjoying the topic at hand.

For example if there is one person coming up all the time and everyone can see it, I think most of you won't be too happy with this person in the end and it will help prove who is the problem.

Now I have PMed these members at different times where I have stressed that they stay on topic plus explained if there is a problem they PM me before they respond to what they are offended about, they like any member here needs to PM me first, direct me to the thread or post with a link directly to the post or thread they want me to look at and explain what is going on plus explain what you(meaning anyone) expect me to do. Also you may have to point out what rule you think that person is breaking to avoid confusion on my part. I usally respond fairly quickly as I'm always near a computer through out the day almost 24/7.

If you (meaning anyone) can't take the time to do this, why should you(meaning anyone) expect me to take the time to correct the problem without any help from you(Meaning anyone). The funny thing is too, that one of the members does take the time to show me where the problem is and what rule is being broken, thus the other member more times than not has not done this, so ireturn if he is complaining about the other member he needs to show me what this guy was doing so wrong before hand not after the fact when it now looks like he is causing the problem, by not helping me I cannot help you(meaning anyone) plus then I hear excuses of favoritism. You(meaning anyone) can't have it both ways.

If you (meaning anyone) get into it with the other member by the time I get there that may be all that I see and even if you (meaning anyone) comes to me after the fact and says "well, why didn't you do something when he was there doing something to me in the other threads", well the question would be for me "why didn't you come to me first?, an point out what was wrong then to Not allow it to happen in another thread that You(meaning anyone) feel now you can get your revenage" As all I am now seeing, is what your doing to the other member now, which doesn't help me if I knew nothing about any other thread, it doesn't look like the other party is doing anything as far as I am concerned, but here you are (meaning anyone) who now is really being the One that I see breaking the rules at that point.

Crying over spilled milk after the fact doesn't help anyone's case if you haven't proven your own case for the thread or post that could be in questioned at that point.

Because like I have said before, many time's before in PM's as well as in other posts and threads, I do not read each and every thread nor do I read each and every post, I respond to complaints more times than not.

But I find it really frustrating and a waste of my time when it appears to be the same group or people all the time when they have been told in detail to not break the rules nor continue with the personal attacks.

If in the long run this doesn't appear to work and help change the attitude of some of these members, then the other option maybe to finally delete their accounts to keep the peace.
