Post by Fabbe »

Never loved too much "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again" -- It is ok, but I never fell for it. Until I heard this impromptu version:

Sounds a bit dated today, mainly because of the Jords, but Elvis' voice is as smooth as Tupelo honey. And what more can one say about Scotty? Those guitar solos were surely missed after the Army. I think one of his best album and EP tracks from the 50's.

The album version is just a perfect. It almost sounds like a Sun leftover but fro the Jords background vocals. One of my favs.

It's unfortunate, whether by accident or intent, Elvis cuts off Scotty's solo during the live performance on CBS-TV in January 1957. Moore starts to play it, but the singer goes back into the verse, so he quietly stops.

Elvis would return to the song on occasion in the 1970s, although it was only done as an afterthought.

Yes I always wondered that as well. A great Scotty solo was missed on the Sullivan show. The only thing I can think of is Elvis was told he only had so much time but maybe forgot to tell Scotty? Who knows. Too bad he's not around anymore to ask.

Since you can hear Scotty begin to do his solo, this means they rehearsed it that way earlier that day. So my guess is Elvis, in the moment, just forgot.
