Re: Ready Teddy
Well, Cisco, it could be an oldies hit parade also in 1956. That's All Right, Good Rockin'Tonight, Mystery Train and all the Sun Recordings. What you say about that?

Re: Ready Teddy
This - to me - is one of his finest rock and roll live performances.
That's why he's still being discussed, analyzed, and admired 60 years later. The roots of the his future reign as the king of r 'n' roll.

Yep... this and the Milton Berle performance of Hound Dog are Elvis' top two live (captured) performances...

These songs... back then were dynamite and young Elvis Presley was dynamite, too.
Forget everything that came 10+ years later...lame oldies hit parades compared to that what happened in the 50s...Elvis would never ever perform these songs like he did it in the 50s...the greatest little Rock and Roll Band of the world....

One of his greatest filmed 50's performances, and so much better than the studio master take.Fabbe on Fri Dec 01, 2017 10:14 am wrote:This - to me - is one of his finest rock and roll live performances.

Re: Ready Teddy
Always fantastic to watch - it's a fantastic performance. He's pulling out all the tricks here! There's a moment where he stands still, not moving at all, and gets screams, the little raise of the eyebrows on "sock hop ball", the terrific vocal - just a joy from start to finish!

FANTASTIC! Does anyone have a color photo of the jacket? Does any color film exists of this performance? Would love to see it.

Re: Ready Teddy
The September 1956 rendition of "Ready Teddy," live from Los Angeles, is wonderful, Elvis plays free and easy, and even drops a little humour into his performance. He rides the crowd reaction like a champion surfer handles waves, it is thrilling. It is also one of the very few TV clips from 1956-1957 where we see him interact with the entire band, including the Jordanaires (with Gordon Stoker on piano). The camera work is imaginative, capturing at least three different angles, including behind the drummer. By the time he returned to TV in January you'd barely see them at all.Fabbe on Fri Dec 01, 2017 2:14 am wrote:This - to me - is one of his finest rock and roll live performances.

The jacket was worn quite a bit between 1956 and 1958, including the film "Loving You," and you can see that it was grey in color.lovin' EP on Fri Dec 01, 2017 9:44 am wrote:FANTASTIC! Re: Ready Teddy
I always feel like he lost the "rebel" and carefree aspect of him, like doing the movies and getting lost in the Hollywood game kinda made some of his old spark die, not to say he still wasn't brillant, but in the 50s there's a different vibe, and I always wonder how he would end up if he focused on music more than films.
I can't even imagine how his career would end up like if he used all of his potential

Re: Ready Teddy
This is the one Little Richard cover where Elvis beats Little Richie at his own game...and does so spectacularly, imo. Both the studio version and the Sullivan performance are transcendent. I never get tired of them. Joyous, life-affirming music at its finest.

Re: Ready Teddy
So funny to see this thread posted. I've been spending a lot of time listening to Elvis' second album and I'd be hard pressed to find a finer rock n roll performance than his version of Ready Teddy. Again, 60 years on, we're still talking about gems like this.
