I have to check, but when opening the new book I couldn't recall if the opening photo Elvis on his bike (Memphis 1949) was in the original or not ...

Same here, but I haven't had my Shredded Wheat today and consequently can't lift the original book up for long enough to open it and check.

I seem to think that the photo was first discussed on here long after the book was originally published, but that doesn't mean it wasn't in the book.

It can't be in the original. And now I'm too busy watching Batman vs Superman to go and see for myself.

Can't see if this has been talked about?

Is 'My Happiness' the recent Jack White transfer? Obviously it was used on the recent 'RCA Albums' set, so wondered if they used it again for the new version of ABFT?

Mastering is the same as on the 2012 release, with the exception of a few edits, inclusion the new wonderful 'I Forgot To Remember' and different cd indexing. What is so special about the JW transfer? It's a direct copy of the 78, with all the pop and cracle included. I have the both the 78 and 45 of this transfer, didn't think it was that good - could be me though ...

The 2012 issue was primarily a comprehensive book with the audio as a bonus, even though that audio included every known releasable second of tape including the blank bits.

2017 is primarily the audio including the latest discovered "I Forgot..." in place of an interview along with a downsized book.

But I'm staggered as to what a bargain this 2017 release is. Is it just me that thinks this? All that we get and for a comparative token gesture amount of money. Given the hours that went into the audio restoration for the 2012 release the 2017 release just piggy backs off of it. Still, I guess it's only right that a Sony release does it instead of another label.

So is that it? Will we see any future new "audio" form this period? Will the Southern Maid Do-nuts ditty come our way, will other new audio from that same show reach us? Will footage of Elvis in the swimming pool in '55 see light of day (screen shot in 2012 release) ? If it takes 57 years for a wire recording to come to light that was never known of beforehand then who knows what else we don't know about.
Go dig up a box of tapes marked "Unknown" from a second-hand record store for ten bucks and find you've got "Tiger Man"

It's nice to think there are more "excuses" for releasing this Sun era release again in the future.

And I'll buy it again, and then again another 5 to 10 years later.
I think we've been spoilt. I'd like to thank Sony, I'd like to thank Ernst and all those who pitched in to help. I can't help but think that any other artist / act wouldn't be given this amount of time of day, I thought this would have stopped at the limited 2017 release. Wow and wow again. Loving the lite-book.

Regards,
Graeme.

Can somebody nicely scan the two full-page photos of Elvis at the Mint Club from 1954?
I would be very grateful as I don't have a scanner.

It's a 2017 addition. But I suspect the bulk of the booklet is drawn from the revelatory, 500 page hardcover book published by FTD in 2012.

The photo of young Elvis with bike was unearthed in 2013 so is not in ABFT first edition.

Thanks MemphisFlash. To my ears, the Jack White transfer sounds better. A cleaner and clearer transfer. Just my option though.

I´ve the 45 rpm, would love to get this mastering on cd! :smt020. I think it was mastered by the great Nashville sound engineer Alan Stoker (son of Jordanaire Gordon Stoker). Bye for now :smt006.

JEEZ!
So after all that "I know everything about this project" you haven't even seen a copy yet!!!

"My Happiness" is the same remastering as the 2012 set, unfortunately they didn't use the new Third Man/Jack White transfer of the acetate.
As noted, Sony/RCA had access to the wire recording, and did not use the YouTube audio. Also, no changes were made to Disc 1. That said, the sound on "My Happiness" is excellent.
AND if this is the case "As noted, Sony/RCA had access to the wire recording" why does the book state that "Taken from a damaged tape recording" and not the wire directly?
Please, if you are going to bang on about the topic it would be better if you actually had seen a copy first!

You need to quit posting falsehood on this forum. This is not the first time I have asked, yet you continue on as above. It does not make you look very good to behave in such fashion, so stop.

My comment about the booklet is written precisely because I have not done an A-B comparison with the 2012 book and, unlike some, I do not like to make definitive replies unless I have done the work. But I am confident the answer I gave to sheila is accurate.

The booklet makes the statement because magnetic wire recording is so obscure these days that few will understand a reference to it. Below is some information for you, so you can be up to speed on this outmoded technology, instead of posting accusations in bold print, and using multiple exclamation points.

'A Boy From Tupelo' is a new entry at 82 on the UK w/e album charts. Very poor sales of around (or just over) 1,000 copies. Personally I did not expect it to enter the charts at all in that many fans already have the original (including myself). The price of nearly £25, although good value, is beyond most people's pockets.

Did it get any substantial promo in the UK? Or just a few write ups in newspapers and magazines? I hope it does better in the US but it's unlikely.
