Marty Lacker Dies

Post by elvisjock »

JoCathy Brownlee Elkington is reporting Marty's passing. Says the news was posted on Facebook by Marty's daughter. (Updated...I confirmed with Alanna Nash.)

Very sad news if true.

Marty was a straight shooter and his books helped all of us understand Elvis better.

His Facebook page is quiet:

Someone posted this elsewhere on Facebook:

Charles G Bunch
From his daughter Sheri today: To all our friends, family and dear Elvis friends around the world who have offered up prayers...I am terribly saddened to say my father, Marty Lacker, has passed away at the age of 80 from complications of kidney failure. He went peacefully with the family at his bedside. Many thanks for your good thoughts and prayers along the way.

RIP. As the Doc pointed out, Marty's insights into Elvis' world and Elvis as a person helped us gain a better understanding of who Elvis was.

Sad to hear...Mr. Lacker was a very brutally honest person, whom I first met at Elvis' Mississippi ranch in 1978. I hope he's finally at peace now. I'm afraid Sonny may be next.

Very sad news. Marty Lacker was part in one of the most essential books on EP - Revelations of the Memphis Mafia by Allanah Nash.

That's a great way to put it, elvisjock. Marty was a unique dude, and I'm sorry to hear of his passing. He was sometimes abrasive, and he definitely rubbed some folks the wrong way at times, but I liked his approach and appreciated his perspective. When the "All The King's Men" video series came out years ago, Marty was front and center assisting me in getting mine when I was having trouble locating it. He went above and beyond to help, and came through.

RIP, Marty.

RIP Marty Lacker. I suppose it's inevitable but very sad to see members of Elvis' inner circle leaving us.

I'm very sorry to hear of Marty's passing. I had the great pleasure of meeting him (and Billy and Jo Smith) at the Dolan house a few years ago. The physical conditions were less than ideal (no AC), but both Marty and Billy were cordial to everyone, posed for photos, signed autographs, and most importantly, took their time answering questions about their time with Elvis. No one felt rushed. It was a wonderful evening.

Unlike other members of the MM, Marty's "straight shooter" personality meant that he would never be embraced ty EPE. IMO, this independence from EPE gave Marty special credibility. You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep, and Marty was in good company. His friendships with Billy and Jo Smith, and Chips Moman endured through a lifetime.

There is more to Marty than most people know -- including me. He was active in the Memphis music scene for a number of years following Elvis's death. This aspect of his career deserves more attention. Marty's letter in support of naming Memphis International Airport in honor of Elvis was a beautiful tribute to Elvis -- even though I'm sure Marty knew the idea never really had a chance.

Marty Lacker will be missed in the Elvis World. May he RIP.

It is on Alanna Nash's personal Facebook page......posted at roughly 4:15 PM Eastern Standard Time.......the complete quote reads:

Alanna Nash: "My very deepest sympathies to the family of Marty Lacker, who joined Elvis today in the rock and roll hereafter. He was 80. Never was a man more dedicated to the truth as he saw it."

An hour later Nash added a follow-up post and photo:

"I'll miss you, Marty. Say hello to Lamar for me, will you? And Elvis, too?"
