I have that Billboard issue. Too bad the ad didnt reference the Dylan song. Even better the album cover! RCA just didnt have a clue how to market their biggest seller. BTW, IMO 'Tomorrow' is the only real Dylan cover done by Elvis. The other is just a jam that happened to be caught on tape. Not a serious attempt at a cover at all. 'Blowin' is a home recording (thats hard to take) again not to be taken seriously. Its nice that Elvis knew about Dylan songs. Would have been nicer had he attempted some more, especially some on Nashville Skyline and some others with a country feel, songs right up his alley.drjohncarpenter wrote:What is intriguing is the likelihood that Elvis had a copy of her RCA LP, and enjoyed it. Like many, it's apparent his appreciation for Bob Dylan came through other people's interpretations of his songs.TINML wrote:Indeed I have Doc, iirc you posted somewhere on another thread. It's a basically a carbon copy (arrangement) from Odetta's version which came first.
Odetta Sings Dylan (RCA LPM/LSP 3324, April 3, 1965)
Side 1
1. Baby, I'm in the Mood for You
2. Long Ago, Far Away
3. Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
4. Tomorrow is a Long Time
5. Masters of War
6. Walkin' Down the Line
Side 2
1. The Times They Are A-Changin'
2. With God on Our Side
3. Long Time Gone
4. Mr. Tambourine Man
5. Blowin' in the Wind
6. Paths of Victory
Too bad his first stab at Dylan, in the heady year of 1966, was buried by his record label.
Billboard - October 29, 1966

I'm one of many Doc! I think he's a brilliant wordsmith but that voice is not my cuppa tea.drjohncarpenter wrote:What is intriguing is the likelihood that Elvis had a copy of her RCA LP, and enjoyed it. I am a huge fan of his son Jakob's work though
