"I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here"!

"Your troubles like bubbles will soon disappear in the air"! ...Love that (calypso sounding) line penned by Don Robertson and Hal Blair. In my opinion, a very nice track from the "Fun In Acapulco" soundtrack album and film, opening Side 2.

Recorded on January 22, 1963 at Radio Recorders Studio B Hollywood, with the great Dave Wiechman behind the console. Standout guest musicians are The Amigos and the great percussionist Emil Richards (born Emilio Radiochia).

Elvis sings very good and comes off as really enjoying the relaxed, carefree theme. This theme is still totally relevant today when travelling to the Caribbean, spending a holiday/vacation around these parts (or any Island) where I live, with beach town villages large and small, and even some secluded as well! Plenty of fiesta and or siesta for sure! You'll like it here, guaranteed! Surprised not used in ads. LOL. Enjoy...This one is for you Mike!

Fun in Acapulco might not contain earth-shattering, brilliant music, but it's wholly enjoyable despite (or because of) its whimsical nature. I Think I'm Gonna Like it Here is probably the least interesting song that Don Robertson wrote that Elvis recorded, but it's pleasant enough and there are some lovely touches within Elvis's laid-back vocals. The film itself is also woefully under-rated, with Elvis's character having more of a back story than in any other film since Flaming Star, a fine supporting cast, and well-paced direction from veteran Richard Thorpe, who had also directed Jailhouse Rock. Thorpe may have been in the twilight of his 45 year directing career but he was still more than capable of producing fine films, and his sense of timing was still very much intact (as some of the sequences in the 1965 That Funny Feeling show). Fun in Acapulco is a very different type of film to JR, of course, and while nothing within it hits the dizzy heights of the Jailhouse Rock number itself, there is also nothing as remotely ridiculous as the "beast in me" line from the 1957 film.

Hi there!! :D :D :D.

Muchas gracias Juan Luis! ::rocks.

Many know on FECC that this is one of my favourite Elvis´soundtracks from the 60´s. I can´t help it :wink:. I agree Elvis sings very good on this song, as he did on songs like: Bullfighter Was A Lady, El Toro, Fun In Acapulco and finally Marguerita (an Ernst Jorgensen favourite), he does more than good, he sang like a bird! :smt020. Bye for now :smt006.

I enjoy this song and this soundtrack... while it's certainly not Elvis' finest, it's a lot of fun with some catchy tunes!!

FUN FACT:
For those few who don't already know (I'm sure there's not many but...), the recording of the song Fun In Acapulco was done in a single take!!

The Fun In Acapulco soundtrack is a very underrated and skillfully crafted album that gets a bit lost in the Elvis canon, simply because of its "soundtrack" status.

Expertly engineered with marvellous room acoustics, it is doubtful if Elvis ever surpassed his outstanding vocals - for sheer technique - during January of 1963.

This song was highlighted as one of the "bad songs" recorded by Elvis during the movie years on the late 1980's video release,"The Echo Will Never Die". I shouldn't have payed attention to it until I listened for myself! :)

Next time I'll visit the Caribbean, I'll definitively give this tune a spin, while sipping a mojito or a marguerita.
Don't know when, but I'll go back, because I really liked it there. Very lovely people, very lovely atmosphere!!
Thanks for digging this tune up, Juan.

Fell in love with the January 23, 1963 alternate master when released on 'Silver Screen Stereo' in 2001.

One of my favourites from the LP.

Enjoyable choice of song to highlight Juan.
