Re: "For Ol' Times Sake"
I could be wrong, but Elvis sounds a little down on this one.

Still a great song. Just imagine if he had sounded up on this one.drjohncarpenter wrote:I could be wrong, but Elvis sounds a little down on this one.

this is goodJuan Luis wrote:..
I like this version very much with Tony Joe White himself adding harmonica. Too bad this version remains unfinished with guitar solos never tracked. Would be interesting if the original solos could be edited in here to see if it works. A labor of love for some including Larrie Londin who played his drums for free for these (two weeks or so) sessions. Very good drumming.

Re: "For Ol' Times Sake"
I like the outtake as featured on the "Raised On Rock" FTD... take 7 is going considerably quite well, until Elvis messes up on one the last lines... "If you don't have nothing left to do..." and, well, he kind of makes a comment that I can't post here, LOL...

Re: "For Ol' Times Sake"
I like the version on the Rhythm n Country CD. That CD is still my go to source for this material. Of course when I give it a spin I use the skip button on a couple of the songs.
Re: "For Ol' Times Sake"
While I'm a sucker for the overblown, melodramatic, self-pitying 70s ballads, I do agree that For Ol' Times Sake is one of the few that I would consider genuinely "great" in the sense that I could comfortably play it for a non-Elvis fan and say, "See? This is what I'm talking about when I say he was the most emotional singer I've ever heard." I used to hate it...no idea why. When I got the Raised On Rock FTD, for whatever reason, the song finally clicked for me. Now I think it's the unquestioned highlight of all of the Stax sessions, and possibly of the Today/Jungle Room sessions as well.fn2drive wrote:This is the session highlight from Stax 1. Elvis' depressed mood and overuse of downers lined up perfectly on this track to create magic. That Jarvis exercised self restraint is as much a miracle as Elvis' vocal. This is one of the few loves lost ballads that we would be tortured with in the coming years that worked on every level.

She did a nice tribute album to Dusty Springfield. If you like Dusty and you like her, worth checking outeligain wrote:Yes she does!skatterbrane wrote:She does a killer Rainy Night In Georgia too.eligain wrote:..
