Nothing wrong with that at all in, in my opinion.

Just for one, last summer I took all of the takes of this which FTD has released. I then put them in order and listened. Sort of a "poor man's" way of being a fly on the wall so-to-speak (I guess I need a hobby!). I find Elvis committed to this song and enjoying it. This is a nice, "breezy" and most enjoyable song from Elvis.

I wasn't sure about the front cover of this masters when I first saw it, it's grown on me now.jetblack wrote:Nothing wrong with that at all in, in my opinion.

I still agree with what that fine figure of a man quoted above wrote.Pete Dube wrote:Since I first heard it I've always found Thinking About You a catchy tune with an engaging, playful performance from Elvis. I also think it's a tasteful production from The One Who Shall Not Be Named.

Yet another song that I first learned via an alternate release. I heard on "Our Memories Of Elvis."
"Don't tell me to play it. I will when I get ready. Do you understand me?"

MY BOY flip? I believe I heard it first there. And the album, of course. This would be in 1975 or early 76.

Re: Never stopped "Thinking About You"!
I do find it quite bizarre, reading this thread through, that people were bemoaning a long string of lost love singles in the 1970s and yet are quite happy to praise the single choices from American in 1969:
In the Ghetto
Suspicious Minds
Kentucky Rain
Don't Cry Daddy
Mama Liked the Roses.
Which one of those was a happy song exactly? In fact, you would need less than two hands to count the amount of positive songs about love in those 1969 sessions.
As for Thinking About You, it's quite unlike much of what Elvis was recording in the mid-1970s thanks to its wistful nature and lighter sound. Sadly the lyrics sometimes seem to fit the music rather clumsily, and for that reason it isn't top-drawer material, but there is something extremely likeable here all the same. This was never going to be hit material, but it makes for enjoyable filler, that's for sure, although I agree with earlier comments that the version with the longer outtro works better.

Sorry Andy, i should have made myself clear, its the pic of elvis he looks down in the dumps...and also that scarf is so big and red and in your face so i guess it swamps his shoulders a bit.jetblack wrote:Was it the pic of Elvis or the cover art?elvislady1964 wrote: I wasn't sure about the front cover of this masters when I first saw it, it's grown on me now.

Re: Never stopped "Thinking About You"!
I had this song playing in my dorm room in college when a friend of mine came in. He asked me, "Who is this?" I told him it is Elvis. He said, "This is the first time I've ever heard Elvis sing like he's not trying to sound like Elvis!" That reaction always floored me because it was a feeling I had about the song that I could never articulate.
When I first heard this song in 1975, I always thought it was the only song on PL that sounded like it belonged on 1975 pop radio. Elvis wasn;t putting his usual Elvisy spin on the vocals and I really liked it. As someone else said here, "he didn't over sing it" and it wasn't over produced. It should have been the A side.

Re: Never stopped "Thinking About You"!
It sort of is a "lost love" song or a song about love that can't work out.fn2drive wrote:For one thing it was a love song not a loves lost song iirc.goldbelt wrote:Taking this song as an example -It proved to be a great track for Olivia, but lyrically or otherwise, how is that song superior to many of the other 70's ballads Elvis was recording?brian wrote: Marty Lacker told a story about how Elvis missed out at being the first to record the song ''I honestly love you'' at the 1972 L.A. sessions because of Colonel Parker's publishing policy.

It's kind of neat to know that the cover creates a Nov 1972 Elvis looking up at Dec 1955 Elvis holding an acoustic.TINML wrote:Me too but I first heard it on this beautyelvisjock wrote:Yet another song that I first learned via an alternate release. I heard on "Our Memories Of Elvis."

Re: Never stopped "Thinking About You"!
It just happens to be one of my absolute complete FAV songs of all time from Elvis.... theirs something just SO COMPELLING about the way he sang it and the easy listening un-complicated arrangement that works so well -like a breath of fresh air.
