Perhaps just as depressing as the thread is how many of the members who posted in it three years ago are no longer regular contributors to the board.

Does that surprise you? And what would be the cause of that? Mmmm, let me think... Could it be that a lot of people really do get tired of the endless - and often pointless - bickering between different factions here? Just to make sure: this is not directed to you or anyone in particular - who the cap fit, let them wear it - but it is once more a call for civil discussions, setting aside personal agendas.poormadpeter2 wrote:Perhaps just as depressing as the thread is how many of the members who posted in it three years ago are no longer regular contributors to the board.

Forget me never by EP
and
Hurt by Johnny Cash (albeit fading out after the first chorus, cause it would be too long otherwise)

Nothing. They got enough of Elvis (and much music in general) while I was alive. Don't need to impose after death!

"Somebody Bigger Than You and I" a personal favourite which brings me to tears.
"Take My Hand Precious Lord" - Jim Reeves (I prefer his version).
"Stand By Me" is also a great recording which would fit perfectly.

Re: Elvis Songs at Your Own Funeral - What Do You Want Playe
What a strange topic. If there would be an Elvis song played then it must be "forget me never"
Re: Elvis Songs at Your Own Funeral - What Do You Want Playe
Interesting topic to say the least.sherrlon12 wrote:I know this may be a tad morbid but have any of you ever thought about having an Elvis song or two played at your funerals, and if so, what do you want played? I like the idea of playing If We Never Meet Again and Bridge Over Troubled Water, and maybe Memories and For the Good Times.
I'm a megalomaniac, so I would obviously want the live version of "How Great Thou Art" from 1974 to be played at my funeral. Maybe even "I Was the One" or something of that nature. Of course, "(Now and Then There's) A Fool Such as I" would be a more fitting option, if truth be told.

For Ol' times sake with the undubbed version of always on my mind would be my choice

It Hurts Me just cause I'm so obsessed with this song, I try really hard to stop listening to it over and over or I might go crazy. Never tired of it, this song just gimme chills, brings me joy, pleasure, everything. Can't even explain why so yeah It Hurts Me even tho it has nothing to do with death, more of a breakup but who cares

Re: Elvis Songs at Your Own Funeral - What Do You Want Played
I attended a funeral yesterday - no Elvis but two by Jim Reeves (I Cant Stop Loving You and I Wont Forget You) and one by Vic Danone (Softly As I Leave You) as the coffin was closed off by the curtain. The three songs were very very moving - Jim Reeves really had a wonderful voice. Really not sure what Elvis songs I would have played but I am sure one or two would come from either His Hand In Mine and How Great Thou Art albums.

(There'll Be) Peace In The Valley (For Me) and How Great Thou Art ( Original LP version) come immediately to mind.

Re: Elvis Songs at Your Own Funeral - What Do You Want Played
My Mother had "An American Trilogy" sang at my Dad's funeral. I would have to give this some serious thought. The only request I've made to my oldest is Roy Clark's " Yesterday When I Was Young. "

Well, I'm not having a funeral, but I'm with you on this one. If I was, Forget Me Never would be my choice.blackdiamond wrote: โSun Jun 04, 2017 11:16 pmWhat a strange topic. If there would be an Elvis song played then it must be "forget me never"
Accused of being "a nerd in his 20s." I wish.

Re: Elvis Songs at Your Own Funeral - What Do You Want Played
Well, I definitely want "The Old Rugged Cross" played, but Elvis never recorded it. There is a version on YouTube that says it's Elvis, but is not. So I don't care who sings it, I just love that song! Another old song that I had played at my dad's funeral was "Victory in Jesus." He always loved that song and so do I. The preacher even commented on it!
