Re: Suspicion....., torments my heart more than 40 years lat
Hi there!!
.
. Thank you for the heads on this info!
. Bye for now
.

Doc, It was not my intention to put down your claims, I only checked the recording session in question "Suspicion" for my topic and it was not there. I should have read futher, I didn´t expect it was mentioned on the Girls! Girls! Girls! recording sessiondrjohncarpenter wrote:You should know by now I don't make baseless claims.Mike Windgren wrote:Thank you Doc!, for the additional cool information. Glad you liked it, but by no means this topic is perfect and any addiitonal info is always welcomedrjohncarpenter wrote:Lovely post about a wonderful song. The guitar arpeggio played by Harold Bradley, along with Bob Moore's flowing bass line, is so darned cool, and of course Elvis' vocal is note-perfect.
According to Ernst Jørgensen, it was Elvis himself who ultimately rejected the idea of using "Suspicion" as a single A-side. Make of that what you will.
All the takes are fun to hear, and found in best-ever quality on this release:
Elvis Presley Pot Luck with Elvis (Follow That Dream, November 2007)
http://home.online.no/~ov-egela/potluckftd.html
http://www.elvisrecordings.com/s620318.htm.
Can you please post or quote where the info comes about Elvis decision no to release Suspicion as a single?. I can´t find it on the sessions pages 166-169 on the book Elvis Presley-A Life In Music by Ernst Jorgensen. This way we will have it on here posted. Thanks.
You didn't look hard enough: Ernst notes Elvis' decision on page 172 of his wonderful session book:
The material for Pot Luck had already been selected and included ... two songs initially considered for single release -- "(Such An) Easy Question" and "Suspicion" -- Afterward, Elvis determined that "She's Not You" and Freddy's favorite, "Just Tell her Jim Said Hello," should be coupled as the next single ... when the record stopped at a disappointing number five, it seemed as if Elvis's ability to pick a hit has failed him, too.

They performed some post-1950s Presley songs in their early sixties sets, and I have posted them. There are numerous examples of comments about their thoughts on Elvis and interaction with him, which many of us have also posted. You need to do your homework.frus75 wrote:Their comments reproduced here seems to confirm it. Then help me a bit here please. Of course, I sure wish Elvis had chosen "Suspicion" and "(Such An) Easy Question" as the single that long-ago summer.

Suspicion....., torments my heart more than 40 years later!.
So there are no examples of them digging any Elvis song recorded from let's say march 62 to October 76? I keep searching and I've only found those comments about devil in disguise...for the record I'm asking about recorded music by Elvis not if he was handsome in MSG or how cool or not he was at his bel air home. Did they praise any recorded song with the same thought they dismiss devil in disguise? If they found time to dismiss that "poor ol elvis" maybe they had the courtesy to praise let's say Suspicious Minds...drjohncarpenter wrote:They performed some post-1950s Presley songs in their early sixties sets, and I have posted them. It's such an easy question: did they praise any elvis song or album from those 15 last years?
PS I swear this is a sincere question.

Here's a question for you:
Did Elvis make better music from July 54 to October 61, or say March 62 to October 76?
Like many fans of major artists, the better music gets the most attention.

Suspicion was a number 1 record waiting to happen in the summer of '62. Much better than the rather bland She's Not You and the previous bubble gummer Good Luck Charm. Why Elvis couldnt see the merits of it is baffling.

Maybe he was fretting too much about the "Priscilla vs. Anita" thing.r&b wrote:Suspicion was a number 1 record waiting to happen in the summer of '62. Much better than the rather bland She's Not You and the previous bubble gummer Good Luck Charm. Why Elvis couldnt see the merits of it is baffling.

Perhaps "She's Not You" was a message to both Anita and Priscilla.jurasic1968 wrote:I agree. Suspicion was far better than She's Not You.

Yes. George really liked "Clean Up Your Own Backyard." I'm sure there were others, but that one jumps out.frus75 wrote:So there are no examples of them digging any Elvis song recorded from let's say march 62 to October 76? Why is it so important to everyone what 4 individuals thought of his songs? People are different, and like different things at different times for different reasons.
Generally, Lennon mentioned, during the comeback period that Elvis was sounding good lately. Be nice if titles were mentioned, but they didn't have a jukebox jury in late 1969, you know?
We don't know who listened to FEIM, or when. Let it be . . .
As for the other way around, Elvis said he preferred their early stuff, yet performed only their late period stuff. So, who knows what people really like?
