"I Love Elvis" - The Marian Weisbarth Story - 1956

Post by Mister Moon »

MEMPHIS : Pretty 14 year old Marian Weisbarth of East Meadow, N.Y., used baby-sitting earnings to come to Memphis, Tenn., to be near rock and roll singer Elvis Presley. But Presley was gone, in Miami for an engagement. Marian’s parents didn’t know of her whereabouts. Finally tracked down, she smilingly telephoned her parents not to worry. “I love him”, Marian said. Presley doesn’t even know her. “I’ve been sent on him”, is the way Marian put it to United Press newsmen. Her father flew down to bring her home.

More on the same subject :
NEW YORK : Marian Weisbarth, 14, of East Meadow, N.Y., is flanked by her father, David Weisbarth (right) and an unidentified friend of the family as she arrives at LaGuardia Airport here, August 1, from Memphis, Tenn. The girl, who ran away from home after quarreling with her parents over her addiction to Elvis Presley’s rock’n’roll records, made her way to Memphis with money earned as a baby sitter. However, her idol had left for an engagement in Miami and there was nothing for Marian to do but wait for her dad to come and bring her back home.

Fourteen year old girls are a force of nature. I luckily have many, many years before I have to deal with love struck teenagers. Nice find Mister Moon.

Those girls would do anything to see their idol.

Presleymania, indeed.

Hey, who knows what might have happened if Elvis had met this 14-year-old before meeting that other 14-year-old....
