Elvis does a wonderful job with both songs, but Let It Be Me is definitely one of my favorite 70's recordings... particularly the one on the Polk Salad Annie FTD.

Let It Be Me
The way he sings the melody during the guitar part and at the end are great!

Re: What's your favorite: Wonder of you or Let it be Me?
Both are superb ballads, each delivered to perfection by Elvis in February 1970. "The Wonder of You" was a sizable hit that year, so in many ways it has an edge. Few think of the 1959 Ray Peterson original anymore, when considering the song. On the other hand, when I heard the alternate 1970 live version of "Let It Be Me" which RCA's Joan Deary chose to close out Elvis A Legendary Performer Volume 3 at Christmas 1978, the warmth of the interaction before he began, and the full-blooded rendition which followed, left an indelible mark.lovin' EP wrote:I've always loved Wonder of You and Let it Be Me. So, it's a tie.

Re: What's your favorite: Wonder of you or Let it be Me?
Great question. Both are near perfect renditions. I prefer Let It Be Me as a song ans Elvis nails it so that's my choice. Btw i was looking theough my singles the other day and it again mad me crazy to see the cover of The Wonder Of You. At the height of his come back that couldnt even get an appropriate and time relevant cover for the single.

The Wonder Of You. This performance is so powerful I once thought he must have re recorded the vocal in the studio. Turns out some of the accompaniment was repaired in the studio but EP nailed it live on that stage. He would never do the song that well again.
I think Let It Be Me is nice enough but it's probably the sixth or seventh best song on On Stage.

Oh wow, that's another tough question, to me, both songs are equal favorites, Elvis vocals are powerhouse performances. That being said, i'll plead the 5th.

I do agree that both are wonderful. This question actually points out that both are quite similar and both are sung (most of the times) very very good, but for me it depends on the concert to decide which of them is the best. On the Polk Salad Anie CD I agree with elvis-fan. On another CD this might be different.elvis-fan wrote:Elvis does a wonderful job with both songs, but Let It Be Me is definitely one of my favorite 70's recordings... particularly the one on the Polk Salad Annie FTD.

"Let It Be Me"

And you're wondering who to call
For a little company
There's always me

The Wonder Of You. It's very powerful and Elvis voice sounds sublime.

The best version of "Let It Be Me" is The Everly Brothers is wonderful version. But as the OP wants to know, of the two songs by Elvis i'm going for "Let It Be Me".

Re: What's your favorite: Wonder of you or Let it be Me?
he sings "Let it Be Me" very well but basically emulates the Jerry Butler/Betty Everett version.
"The Wonder Of You" - well ... Elvis makes it his own. It BECOMES his song from the opening strains to the applause fade-out.
Gotta be that one!

After 1970, "The Wonder Of You" was never given the same treatment. "Let It Be Me" never made it past Vegas and the Astrodome. However, the latter was always performed top-notch, even if for a very short time. Because of the way "The Wonder Of You" was performed later, I'd give the slight edge to "Let It Be Me."
If I strictly grade them both from February 1970, I'd have to flip a coin.
