Fair enough. Whatever the true number of sales me be for the budget version, I think it is reasonable to add an extra million of lost shipments/sales after Presley’s passing in 77.

honor to whom honor is due:
According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Elvis' Christmas Album along with its reissues has shipped at least 17 million copies in the United States. It is the first Presley title to attain Diamond certification by the RIAA, and is also the best-selling Christmas album of all time in the United States. With total sales of more 20 million copies worldwide, it remains the world's best-selling Christmas album.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvis%27_Christmas_Album

1. Elvis Presley – Elvis’ Christmas Album

Sold: 2o million

Head and shoulders above the rest, Elvis Presley almost triples the sales of the Kenny G. In 1957 It should a more tender side to the King when the public thought he would do something outrageous.
It was the first time Elvis tackled anything remotely resembling a concept album, with Blue Christmas going down as one of the most recognisable holiday tunes ever.
https://happymag.tv/here-are-the-top-selling-christmas-albums-of-all-time/
But the point is that it is not 20 million on just the original album that was released in 1957. The 20 million is basically distorted - almost a manipulated total from a couple of re-issues - an original album that went from being a full priced album to a budget album with a few different tracks, different artwork and also at one point, even a different title. And the budget re-issue might be the first Elvis album to attain Diamond status, but the word "first" implies there were others, yet as far as I am aware, there were not others - so in that case, it is the only one to do so.
But the point is more that it sells and sells and sells.
It happens all the time, that they bring out special editions and variations of great selling albums, because of selling more and more of the same product.
I’m not denying that every Christmas, the music sells or these days, it seems streaming is the preferred option.

And I’m not denying and nobody’s is that the original 1957 album went on to sell 4 million world wide or that the budget album from 1970 with a slightly different track list, different artwork and much lower price has sold around 12 million worldwide. Nor that It’s Christmas Time has sold very well in the US and that the current incarnation called The Classic Christmas album which includes tracks from the second Christmas album continues to sell, or rather gets streamed, just as every other artists Christmas albums do every year - it’s not unique to Elvis. But it is wrong to simply say that Elvis’ Christmas album has sold 20 million copies worldwide because it has not.

Now you might assume that had the original album been kept on catalogue, that it would have gone on to sell in the number you quote, because we know you have the need or desire for that, but there are no guarantees especially if the price was kept at the normal full price. Take a look at the fiasco with the Frankie and Johnny album from 1966. It is noted that the album has sold a million copies and certified platinum but it is not just from the 1966 release but also the sales of the Pickwick budget version from 10 years later that have generated those total sales - around 400k from the ‘66 release and 600k from the budget release, and the awards should show that separately instead of combining them.
RIAA has a rule that if a certain % or more of the track list on a reissue differs from the original release it is counted as a different album.

I can’t remember the % number, but the 1957 Christmas LP and the 1970 reissue had about a 50% difference, therefore they are counted separately. Frankie and Johnny’s changes amounts to 25%, not meeting the % that would force the original issue and reissue to be counted separately by RIAA.

The same can be said for the legacy reissues on the main label. The 1956 debut album “Elvis Presley” contains both that album and “Elvis”. “Elvis Is Back” contains “Something for Everybody”, “Elvis Country” contains “Love letters From Elvis”. All these releases, their sales are counted by RIAA as new titles, their sales numbers aren’t added to the original album totals.

The same happened when bonus tracks were added to the original albums in 1997-1998, they became new titles in RIAA’s rules.

I’ve not read anything to say this was ever reversed.

Always Elvis

It is said that the album GI Blues stayed for 111 weeks in the charts, but did they also count the weeks of 1977 when this and many other albums went back to the charts?

In the UK Elvis' best album re longevity in his lifetime (plus the boom bit after he died) was Blue Hawaii, then G.I. Blues.
The re-issues in the 1970's weren't an issue as they didn't chart in the UK.
Blue Hawaii did a continuous 58 week run.
G.I. Blues did 55 weeks made up of 50 weeks on the chart then 5 weeks off the chart then back for 5 more weeks on the chart.

They were late pubisihing their charts. But that is great news, especially "Blue Christmas" which becomes another Top 40 hit. This is what this weeks's Ask Billboard's section inside the Chart Beat article at Billboard says. And I quote

"First, in another highlight on the newest Hot 100, Elvis Presley‘s “Blue Christmas” bounds 41-27, a new high for his 1957 classic. The King posts his highest rank since the chart dated Jan. 7, 1978 – a day shy of what would’ve been his 43rd birthday – when “My Way” held at No. 22" Unquote

The album did not re-enter the Billboard chart after he died. The only albums that charted were Moody Blue, Welcome To My World, a couple of the Gold Record albums, A legendary Performer and 50 Worldwide Hits.

Yes You are right there have been about 7 albums at the same time in the main billboard album charts in 1977, but I could not find GI Blues album.

No because as I wrote elsewhere, apart from Moody Blue, the other 5 albums that charted on Billboard were compilations and apart from Moody Blue, none made the Top 50 as re-entries.

Elvis Presley The Classic Christmas Album is now # 29 and very clos to his best postion of 28 in its 53. week!

The Essential Elvis Presley album is again # 174 and is now 100 weeks on the Billboard 200 album charts!

Even when it is controverse when ever this album get into the chart E1 album went out?
But it is their counting, let´s celebrate ;-)

That give me the questoin does anyone have an update number of all Elvis Album that have been on the album charts for one year and above?

In the american charts it´s the albums GI Blues, Blue Hawaii, E1, Aloha and The Essential Elvis Presley album that were one year or longer in the charts. Maybe there are more?
Elvis’ Golden Records (65 weeks)
Elvis Is Back (56 weeks)
