Burning Love
Actually, this was released officially on the excellent Bear Family "The Sun Country Years" 10 LP set around 1987. The recording was credited to (if I remember correctly) Scotty Moore and Jimmy Lott. The recording itself is Scotty's guitar reverb tape on the song. The vocal is buried deeply in the background, but a listen on headphones reveals that the vocalist is Elvis. The arrangement is very similar to the recording Elvis and the boys recorded in late 1956 for his second album.

Because the vocal is so far down in the mix on the version I have heard, I don't expect that we will hear Elvis very clearly on the song without a great deal of audio wizardry. However, we can always hope that the experts who worked on this project were able to improve the audibility of Elvis' vocal.
He's there, that's for sure!

Ironically, I posted this today on the other Boy From Tupelo topic:
http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=71048&p=1061937&hilit=bear+family#p1061937

The Bear Family set is still available, too.

I didn't see your post on the other topic...

I only wish that the Bear Family "Sun Country Years" set would be reissued on CD.

The words fragment, destroyed and poor condition and the frase "Some parts duplicated and edited to create near-complete performances" made me very, very nervous.
Not to be depreciative of such a wonderful musical content ( the CDs seems packed of goodies), but could it be that Little Mama is just a few bars in terrible sound?

What are you complaining about, Sergio? You should be grateful that Sherif Hanna decided to even release this! Ahem...

Not that I'm not grateful but let's face it: he could and SHOULD have done this sooner.

Thank you, Blue River. Thank you, rjm. Thank you, Ken.

He SHOULD have done nothing. He didn't have to, was under no obligation to, and really no one has the right to tell him otherwise, just like any other owner of Elvis audio material. There seems to be a rampant sense of entitlement amongst a part of the fanbase. Maybe you should buy up these rare audio tapes and the like and give them away for all to hear.

Probably you´re right, but the eighties were nothing against the nineties, when the first boot-CDs appeared. It was something like a hurrican - streched over a decade... Great times! But back to A Boy From Tupelo: Anything new from Sun is absolutely welcome!

Thanks Doc! I´ve never thought, I would live long enough hearing a Hayride-version of this song... :D

You can bet that's what I would do.

Not that it's a perfect example of comparison, but I already shared other rare items (non-Elvis related) before. Items for which I PAID. And this coming from someone who lives in a country like Brazil where money's not an easy thing. Still, my biggest joy is to share the love and magic of someone you admire, respect and love. I can't feel such thing knowing that I wouldn't be able to share it with anyone.

If you're happy with the concept of someone holding on to a treasure that would be so important to us, heck, what can I do? Worse: holding on to something until it's almost screwed up to the point of no return. I can only express my joy of seeing something like the newly discovered wire recording situation. And you know what? I contacted the guy the other day and he said he LOVES us Elvis fans. He was HAPPY to share something THAT rare and UNIQUE for FREE. Even after knowing the item he had in his hands he didn't show ANY concern over its value.

One last thing: those damn collectors don't own nothing. They aren't the rightfully owners of Elvis music. They can pretend they are, but they aren't. So let's celebrate the fact that some more important material is lost somewhere! What's the fun in letting us all hear it, isn't it? Who cares about Elvis work or the love we all have for the guy. It's all about the money.
PS.: Just would like to add that my comments aren't aimed at Sherif Hanna as a person, or at least not to his day-by-day persona. He may be a nice person and all, after all I don't know him. But I don't agree with the "collectors syndrome". That's all.

Thank you, Blue River. Thank you, rjm. Thank you, Ken.

A must have. But this release will forever be remembered as the release with the missing IFTRTF.

I was actually kind of hoping they'd hold back the tracklist until it was released. Takes some of the anticipation out of it. Looks like a wonderful listening experience, and all those takes of "Blue Moon" are intriguing, as well as a number of other things.

But there is apparently no third acetate. (Is the receipt a fake?!) And if he ever did Tiger Man back then, it's washed into the sands of time. (Miracles do happen, though, but naw. It's gone. I do believe it once existed. Somewhere, sometime. No matter.)

No "Without You." Sure would even love to hear the whole Mr. Anonymous version, let alone Elvis's. Aw, well. And "Casual Love Affair" apparently never did exist. The rest are probably myths. Excepting "Satisfied," which must not exist now, I guess.

No really strange songs that are total shocking surprises. But I'm sure it will be very rewarding when played. Very rewarding.

I guess I was hoping for miracles. Still, I think we're very lucky. It's hard to imagine something like this, thinking back even to the '90s.

Thumbs up. It should be an even better listen. (I'm glad that wire recording came out. That way, we know that anything might still be anywhere.)

rjm:

Some of these may exist somewhere. Don't forget that the "Little Mama" acetate is being released only now because Sherif Hanna was sitting on it for years and years. The same probably can be said of other treasures.
Then there's the case of unique material laying around and the owner doesn't even know its importance, like the wire recording that caught us by surprise.

Thank you, Blue River. Thank you, rjm. Thank you, Ken.

I read on another site where Keith Flynn wrote:
"Everything on the set is mastered again from scratch, nothing has been used that has been out before - We even get 'Just Because' in complete form for the first time!"

I don't know exactly what he means by that, but it looks like we're gonna' be in for a lot of little pleasant surprises on this set! 8)

It's the intro. It was clipped since the first LP (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Great news and makes me even more pissed that I don't have the money right now... Man, I can only wish for a non-limited run.

The non-appearance of a third acetate on this set only means they haven't found one.

We still live in hope...................

Because Elvis had been an RCA recording artist for a year when that informal session took place in December 1956. It's out of scope for the project.

Any info on the engineering side?

Who has combined the fragments.

Who has done the mastering?

There could have never been no Ernst Jorgensen and no Sun era tapes or anything left in the archives, so how about everyone stop bitching and be happy we are getting this in 2012.

Getting 3 CD's full of Sun recordings from 1953 to 1955 from Elvis Presley is a blessing.

Thank you Ernst Jorgensen for all your hard work you have done to provide this to the fans!

It's an easy repair. Such as what I managed:

http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=989313#p989313

No doubt that presented on the Tupelo set will be better.

I'm going to take a listen to it.

Anyway, I think there's more to the intro in the project than repairing. Maybe an opening chord? Or maybe it's just the "well, well" in its full form...
