Thanks Piers.PiersEIN wrote:Love that photo Barry, makes it all more "real"!Barry wrote:The track You're A Heartbreaker, on the Elvis At Sun cd, came from this Sun 45 that Kevan mastered..
Kevan did great work with your vinyl.
And thanks for your contribution to that compile- I think your credit was dropped off the CD booklet.
Cheers

You're Right, never did get the credit, but that's the way the mop flops.

As of july 29th, the Norwegian Flaming Star site states that both "From Memphis To Hollywood" and "A Boy From Tupelo" is "underway". They wil revert with info as soon as the books are in store and ready to ship to us who have ordered them.

Spot-on, Matthew.Matthew wrote:Piers - what song are you referring to here? RCA transferred That's All Right in November, 1955 (adding reverb in the process), and likewise, Blue Moon Of Kentucky was renderred to tape by RCA in November, 1955 - but from a Sun 78 (and adding compression). This predates Heartbreak Hotel's success by a few months.PiersEIN wrote:The "Sun Version" original vinyl without echo has only been released on the MRS label on "Elvis Presley Memphis Recording Service Volume 1 1953-1954:" since the original SUN release.
Jo Pirzada owns the original metal stamper.
Surprisingly it has never been released by RCA (as yet) - since they added echo after the success of 'Heartbreak Hotel' and this is now the version everyone is familiar with.

Perhaps what we are getting on the Tupelo set in answer to the Blue Moon Of Kentucky query labelled as "RCA Master" is the November, 1955 RCA compression job, and I suspect for reference/interest purposes only. After all, this is the version that would have been known to most over the years.
That other guy continues to post declarations that are erroneous, despite our best efforts. It's irksome, but what can you do?

Doc, This is correct information, why would you state it is not?

Blue River,
I think the actual release date is August 1st. Shopelvis always ships 3-4 weeks after the actual release date.
My guess is that some in the U.K. may have this in their hands by the weekend or first of next week - if the project is not delayed by FTD.
I still long for the 'good ol' days' when we could walk into a record/CD store and purchase the new releases on the day they are released!
I guess we will be able to with the "Prince From Another Planet" release!

Re: "Boy from tupelo" official tracklist!!!!
That seems plausible. So that means the official tracklist is incorrect in identifying this track as being the "Elvis at Sun master, derived from digital transfer of 78 RPM Sun single"?Matthew wrote: Perhaps what we are getting on the Tupelo set in answer to the Blue Moon Of Kentucky query labelled as "RCA Master" is the November, 1955 RCA compression job, and I suspect for reference/interest purposes only. Assuming they still had the pieces, could they somehow 'extract' the song from them ?RonBaker2003 wrote:I think the acetate that was broken was for "Nobody's Child"

My bad, Barry, I though you were discussing 2012's Tupelo box set, the subject here, not the 2004 release Elvis at Sun. I have amended my comment.Barry wrote:Doc, for your infodrjohncarpenter wrote:Barry, as you should well know by now, this is incorrect information.Barry wrote:The track You're A Heartbreaker, on the Elvis At Sun cd, came from this Sun 45 that Kevan mastered..

By 73 discs i assume he is refering to the 73 stamped in the trail off , Does this mean that Elvis at sun contains a copy of a repro single, And i take it he used that because they were taken from mint sun singles, Cool info Barry

Speaking of Sun tracks, has anyone received this latest release from Victrola ?

With the upcoming FTD release, the Victrola release won't get much attention.TCB-FAN wrote:Speaking of Sun tracks, has anyone received this latest release from Victrola ?
Re: "Boy from tupelo" official tracklist!!!!
Yes the 1973 counterfeits were used many times for the SUN tracks (it was
an almost impossible task to track down MINT SUN singles back then).
I have the full set of 5 counterfeits and they are absolute beauties!
Interesting is the set i have though as the sleeves are original SUN paper
sleeves (or excellent copies), The recent Bootleg vinyl book makes no mention
of these sleeves, which makes me wonder if they were taken from other SUN
singles (may not be Elvis'), I bought these in the early 80's and they had the
sleeves then, anyone have any idea about these sleeves?
They look GREAT in the SUN bags!

No, it's a reference to the counterfeit pressings of Elvis' Sun singles made in 1973. They were very nicely done, and are highly collectible today in their own right. Note that these 45s were each apparently mastered from mint Sun 78s.Chad Gates wrote:By 73 discs i assume he is refering to the 73 stamped in the trail off ...
What Barry is telling us is his pristine1973 copy of "You're A Heartbreaker" is what you hear on Elvis At Sun (RCA 2004).

That`s what i meant by 73 stamped in the trail off, I just didn`t use the word counterfeit but it is well known that those 1973 pressings had that stamped on them in order to distinguish them from original sun singles.

Acording to elvisnews.com this just added the tracklisting which must of had a delayed reaction. but they did have this to say.
Just a couple of days before FTD will ship this massive project, the tracklist for 'A Boy From Tupelo' is now revealed:

Maybe Sherif has sold a chunk of his rare audio collection to Sony? Could the June 26 1977 soundboard be a future FTD?
Orion wrote on Jul 30, 2012
I am a bit amazed that the "owner" of the the Little Mama acetate is Sherif Hanna. I admit that I don't know much about this gentleman, but I find it odd that he's owned this rarity for so long and has finally come forward with it. I also read somewhere that he was the man who owned the cassette that was recently released as a rehearsal FTD. It may give some creedence to the often circulated rumour that he in possession of the soundboard to the final show in Indy. I heard that he got that one many moons ago from Bruce Jackson. Who knows ? Maybe he's got material enough to keep FTD afloat for a few more years.

We can only hope. No matter the quality of the performance, the fact that it's Elvis' final concert makes it historically important.
