No, it's a newer mix. You can find the correct version on the silver box.

Re: ... and the BEST about the SONY BOX is ...
Hi MarkyMark77, I just listened to "Rags To Riches" on the Complete Masters Box.
The splice sounds like the one on the Silver Box to me.
Strange is the constant drop-out on the right channel at the ending, beginning at 1:47 and lasting until 1:55. Sounds like a really bad worn tape. But the guitar is almost completely buried in the mix. I still prefer the one on "Elvis Aaron Presley" and "The Collection, Volume 4."

Exactly, Claus. Agreed 100%.Claus wrote:The FM set contains the mixes listed as Original alternate mixes on the fool ftd of Padre and Love The Life I Lead, so it's probably the same on the new box. Disappointing to hear that the Promised Land intro hasn't been fixed.

Re: ... and the BEST about the SONY BOX is ...
IIRC, it was speeded up when released back then... I don't rememebr if it was Jerry Scheff or John Wilkinson that said that the concerts at the MSG were excellent but on record it didn't sound too good, because they tampered the sound and altered the speed.luckyjackson1 wrote:Sorry about MSG. I just had the feelin’ that it runs slower now. Probably just imagination but I have to check it sometime.

MSG was NOT SPED UP on original release, despite what Ronnie Tutt remembers. All one has to do is pick up their guitar and play along with the album. It is at concert pitch.

Re: ... and the BEST about the SONY BOX is ...
What version of "A big hunk o love" (original studio recording) is on this latest set? For years they used the complete take 4 (I think) as the master. And is the beginning of "Long legged girl" still clipped?
Re: ... and the BEST about the SONY BOX is ...
They have used the correct version of Big Hunk for the past 5 years.

You still seem to have problems with both the quote function and distinguishing the difference between remixing and remastering.TONY wrote:luckyjackson1 wrote: But the guitar is almost completely buried in the mix. quote]

I'm surprised the clipped intro on Promised Land hasn't generated more complaints. This is the be-all, end-all Elvis box, is it not?

Re: ... and the BEST about the SONY BOX is ...
it is frustarting but it is correct on the Elvis 75 Box, so if you make copies of the discs (as I plan to do) you can always throw this track in before you burn it.elvisjock wrote:I'm surprised the clipped intro on Promised Land hasn't generated more complaints. The discs containing "Promised Land" and "Rags to Riches" should most certainly be replaced and these issues corrected prior to any second manufacturing run. The whole point of a product like this is to have a single source archive of all the master recordings. It is no good if one needs additional CDs to fill in the fault gaps (such as "Elvis 75" for "Promised Land" and the "Love Letters from Elvis" FTD for "Rags to Riches").elvisjock wrote:I'm surprised the clipped intro on Promised Land hasn't generated more complaints. The alternate vintage mixes ought to be replaced with their correct album mixes per original release as well. For someone like myself who has expressed interest in a second production run these are the sorts of things that would make or break it for me, outside of cost of course.
Re: ... and the BEST about the SONY BOX is ...
Of course, but the mistake was also present on the FM set. They've had a whole year to correct it.Mike C wrote:it is frustarting but it is correct on the Elvis 75 Box, so if you make copies of the discs (as I plan to do) you can always throw this track in before you burn it.elvisjock wrote:I'm surprised the clipped intro on Promised Land hasn't generated more complaints. Re: ... and the BEST about the SONY BOX is ...
Phew! You guys really f*** me up!
"Long Legged Girl (With The Short Dress On)" is NOT clipped.
"Guitar Man" is the same as on the recent "Clambake" AND "Elvis 75" escape/release.
Is it possible that MSG was sped up on the 1992 CD release???
Cuz that's the one I was talkin' bout. I remember havin' the 80's RCA LP and I had to adjust (pitch) the speed (slow it down).
Is the mix of "Promised Land" compared to the Elvis 75 Box identical?

What is wrong with Rags to Riches? And what songs have alternate vintage mixes?Matthew wrote:The discs containing "Promised Land" and "Rags to Riches" should most certainly be replaced and these issues corrected prior to any second manufacturing run. Re: ... and the BEST about the SONY BOX is ...
The splice is different from the actual single. Indeed, the only CD with the correct mix and splice is the Elvis Aaron Presley box set, which is now out of print on CD.Good Time Charlie wrote:What is wrong with Rags to Riches? Re: ... and the BEST about the SONY BOX is ...
I've never understood this. The "LLFE" FTD features a different splice, the 50 Greatest Love Songs features another different splice, the Complete Masters set now apparently includes an even different splice. What the hell is goin on!?Mike C wrote:The splice is different from the actual single. The clipped intro to "Promised Land" is instantly noticeable though, I wasn't even aware it was clipped before listening to it, so I wasn't looking out for it, it just sounds wrong.

1) The piano intro is clipped here, that is the problem.
2) The original single was a mono release - no original stereo mix. There is no 'correct' stereo mix.

Re: ... and the BEST about the SONY BOX is ...
The first time I heard "Rags To Riches", was on german radio. That's why I went and bought the wonderful "The Collection, Vol. 4" CD. It was actually the fourth disc I ever bought. And there is the song in all its glory, just like I knew it from Day 1. And even back then the mastering sounded good!

Are we talkin' about this beauty here? Just check out the awful writing on the cover - pisses me off!!! What a bad habit to put 45's into different single covers!!!
