I'm a MK fan....I think he is one of the best songwriters and guitar player of all times....even a very unique and personal singer IMO
He wrote two songs about Elvis (Calling Elvis and Back to Tupelo) and one about colonel Parker (Gator blood)...
All I can say...he really loves Elvis ( but hates Parker)

Re: Mark Knopfler calls it like it is.
I found his comment on Elvis wanting to become a moviestar insightful, those were the stars when he was young, music stars didn't have the status back then they would have after Elvis became the first "total rockstar". New artists wanted to be Elvis, Elvis wanted to be Brando. Never looked at it like that, but it does make sense.

Re: Mark Knopfler calls it like it is.
There is some evidence that he wanted to be a movie star before he thought of making music his life's work. I dreamt, at age 12, of one day becoming a professional soccer player both before I fronted a rock band, that happened when I was 17, and of course, long before I longed to become a diplomat, which hit me when I was 21. We dream things that never become real, but in Elvis' case he may have lived to make real all of his dreams.

I am a Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler fan myself. Everything Elvis from Mark is spot on. Didn't he write Kings Call for Phil Lynnott? And played on it as well?

His last 4-5 albums are terrific.
Not sure how to describe his later years style, let me call it Irish folk.
It’s quite addictive..
Re: Mark Knopfler calls it like it is.
He wrote "Private Dancer" which was a massive hit for Tina Turner and one of my favorite songs of all time.

I must admit that I have never cared for that song or Tina Turner in general
