Sound quality is subjective and personal taste... on the CD side of things, several of the Japanese 24bit 96 khz CD's don't sound as good as the newer Sony releases... it's all a matter of opinion.

The japanese 24bit paper sleeve release of On Stage among others is still the edition I prefer, amazing sound.
Not legacy,FTD or any other ones of this 1970 album.
One thats real bad is the TTWII paper sleeve,no idea what went wrong in production there.

Japanese vinyl beats the US releases; it's a pity Japanese vinyl was expensive (2-3 times the price comparing the European release or 2 times the US release). Always great design + lyric sheet included.

I’m speaking in terms of sound, and I think that (mostly) the Americans sound better. One exception for me is the already mentioned TTWII, though for me the 72 pressing has the edge

May I add that in the so called “audiophile” world are to many myths? I grew up thinking that the black label pressings from 76-77 were horrendous. some months ago I bought a bunch of them sealed and boy they sound terrific

Totally agree. You can still pick them up cheaply and they are far better buys than the Friday Music or Music On Vinyl reissues, which are much more expensive.
