So ... every three years you get a little hankering for this song.JimmyCool on Tue Jun 26, 2018 8:49 pm wrote:http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=88967
On that older topic you created, I wrote:
"It's a beautiful ballad from Hal Blair and Don Robertson, although miles away from anything popular on the charts when released on 1965's Elvis For Everyone. What are your thoughts?"
You never answered, and In fact never again posted on the topic, despite visiting it at least eight more times. What's up with that?

Re: I Met Her Today
Although Elvis recorded the song on 15 october 1961 the first released version was recorded on 31 may 1963 by Eddy Arnold (RCA 47-8253).

Re: I Met Her Today
Nice ballad for an early 60's LP, like Pot Luck . Of course he sings it well because his voice was at its peak. But for a 1965 hodge-podge album , it certainly didnt excite me at that time. Just something nice to listen to but already a bit dated by that time. Thats about it. Reminded me of so many of the bonus songs that started to appear on movie soundtrack LPs. I dont think it would have been a hit single if released in 65.

Nothing wrong with that.Elfan on Wed Jun 27, 2018 3:06 pm wrote:I have to disagree with most here.
I really don't like this song at all.
If we all liked the same Elvis songs / movies / concerts this board would be very boring.

Re: I Met Her Today
I find the song pleasant and perfectly executed. However I am not a big fan of this type of material and sound. But I can listen to it once in a while and enjoy it.CountCanada wrote:I am really liking this song.

It is strange how they waited 4 years before releasing this gem.Mikrt17 on Wed Jun 27, 2018 4:28 pm wrote:I have always loved this song and have always wondered why it was hidden away on ' Elvis For Everyone' it deserved a better fate
It would have sat nicely on the 'Pot Luck' LP.
'Steppin' Out Of Line' (used on Pot Luck) would then have fit nicely with the other 5 movie songs that were included on 'Elvis For Everyone'.

Re: I Met Her Today
In 1965 RCA has no new tracls in the can; the LP Elvis for everyone is filled with "left-overs".jetblack on Wed Jun 27, 2018 5:45 pm wrote:It is strange how they waited 4 years before releasing this gem.Mikrt17 on Wed Jun 27, 2018 4:28 pm wrote:I have always loved this song and have always wondered why it was hidden away on ' Elvis For Everyone' it deserved a better fate

Interesting to learn. I'd never given much thought to this recording, other than how well it is sung and performed. However, it's not a surprise someone decided to shelf it in 1961, as Presley had a glut of such recordings, and movie soundtrack songs were increasingly the priority.
Eddy Arnold's late 1963 release was a B-side, and never charted. Sadly, as r&b noted, by the time RCA gave it a place on a hodgepodge Elvis LP in 1965, it sounded ancient. Only hardcore fans paid any attention, it was a new world out there.
..
Eddy Arnold "I Met Her Today" (RCA Victor 8253, November 30, 1963)
Produced by Chet Atkins, the session was at RCA Nashville's "Studio B" just three days after Elvis had been there.
The A-side was "Jealous Hearted Me."
Arnold's arrangement is rather lugubrious.
